Vonn crashes

It started with a smooth run in the downhill portion of the women's super combined competition by American Olympic downhill champion Lindsey Vonn, at the Vancouver Olympics, Whistler, February 18, 2010. . Expected to win the event, Vonn led after the first interval.

Later in the slalom event, Vonn hooks a tip on a gate near the finish line.
Without a ski, Vonn can only try to control her fall.
The slide continues through several more gates.

At the finish line, Vonn gets a hug from teammate Julia Mancuso, who won silver in the event.
Maria Riesch of Germany would eventually take gold after crossing the finish in the slalom portion of the super combined.
