A salute for Sgt. Ryan Russell

Bernard Weil/Chief Photographer, Multimedia

Yesterday I was witness to the thousands of police officers, emergency services workers and public that came out to pay tribute to Sgt. Ryan Russell, January 19, 2011, who was killed January 12 in an early morning chase. His death left a city in mourning and a son without a father.

Police Chief Bill Blair gives a final salute to Sgt. Ryan Russell as his hearse passes, following funeral services at Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Members of the Chief's Ceremonial Unit follow the hearse.
