He needs to examine the history of baseball and see how many heros have popped out of the crowd of players, that were poor hitters but had contributed in a big way to the teams success in some other way. Johnny Mac. could lay down a bunt as good as anyone in the game. How many hot shot average hitters have you seen that couldn't move the runners because he couldn't lay down a simple thing like a bunt. Hussle on the bases, John never trotted to first base, he was flat out when the opportunity presented itself. John's glove was his forte, he could play any position on the hot infield and you knew he had control, he was an exceptional fielder. When you looked at his salary, he was the best bargain the Boo Jays ever had and they gave him away. If they couldn't recognize that talent their future isn't very bright!
Larry Taylor commented on 'Johnny Mac, he ain't coming back.......'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341bf8f353ef0154369d5c1c970c2011-11-03T21:12:51Z2011-11-03T21:12:51ZLarry TaylorThe league is full of x Toronto ball players that Toronto coaches didn't think had any talent! Think about Tie Domi, Matt Bonner, Jerome Williams (JYD), Darcy Tucker... I don't care if John MacDonald was a nice guy and hard worker - he hit .200 and couldn't consistently stay in the lineup because of how much of a liability he was at the plate. I am not sad to see him leave. I much rather have a lazy jerk on the team if it helps any Toronto team make the playoffs.
