Big game African mammals are often poached illegally, and there is nobody to stop them because the locals aren't getting any kind of incentive to intervene. Through the hunting, the locals are provided with money for being safari guides, trackers, spotters, cooks, for housing, and often they get meat as well. All of this gives the local people the incentive to protect these animals against poachers. The same thing happens in America, where a large portion of wetland conservation comes from duck hunters for example.
Pest Control Las Vegas commented on 'The Daily Beast - The Lion Whisperer - October 16, 2010'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341bf8f353ef0154343f4541970c2011-08-04T10:05:59Z2011-08-04T10:05:59ZPest Control Las Vegashttp://www.mountainviewpestcontrol.com/Christian the Lion story is far better, everytime i see a Lion story I always think of that one first.
Christian the Lion story is far better, everytime i see a Lion story I always think of that one first.
kate commented on 'The Daily Beast - The Lion Whisperer - October 16, 2010'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341bf8f353ef014e60677f33970c2011-04-05T20:17:07Z2011-04-05T20:17:07ZkateI don't know who's cuter, the lion or the handler.
I don't know who's cuter, the lion or the handler.
cheryl commented on 'The Daily Beast - The Lion Whisperer - October 16, 2010'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341bf8f353ef0148c7985c4e970c2011-01-14T04:27:48Z2011-01-14T04:27:48Zcheryli would do what he does, if i die then great, everyone dies but at least i died doing what...
i would do what he does, if i die then great, everyone dies but at least i died doing what i love, it depends on how much you love those cats. some people like sky diving or rock climbing. but those guys would truly be so much more amazing and rewarding to be with, i would indulge in every second of it, it would truly be heaven, and i would be as happy as i could possibly be.
Canary commented on 'The Daily Beast - The Lion Whisperer - October 16, 2010'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341bf8f353ef0148c6e53c75970c2010-12-20T05:19:33Z2010-12-20T05:19:33ZCanaryYes the lions might turn on him one day, but that not a definite thing. Sure, hunters are a lot of help. Aha... That's why so many species are extinct or on their way to disappearing . Hunters, my dear friend, are beasts that kill for pleasure and status and to be able to have a stuffed head in their living room. You want to help animal overpopulation? Spay or neuter your dogs and cats... Animals should only be killed for food, if at all.
Current Instincts commented on 'The Daily Beast - The Lion Whisperer - October 16, 2010'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341bf8f353ef0147e04abedc970b2010-12-01T16:26:24Z2010-12-01T16:26:24ZCurrent Instinctshttp://currentinstinct.wordpress.comI bet this guy is delicious
I bet this guy is delicious
AJ commented on 'The Daily Beast - The Lion Whisperer - October 16, 2010'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341bf8f353ef0147e02d7888970b2010-11-26T21:14:16Z2010-11-26T21:14:16ZAJdoes no one remember the guy who felt/acted this way about grizzly bears? do you remember how that ended for...
does no one remember the guy who felt/acted this way about grizzly bears? do you remember how that ended for him?
Katelyn Hickman commented on 'The Daily Beast - The Lion Whisperer - October 16, 2010'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341bf8f353ef0147e02cdc2f970b2010-11-26T18:44:29Z2010-11-26T18:44:29ZKatelyn HickmanAbsolutely wonderful...I want to take zoology and work with wild animals, especially large cats. By culling herds hunters also ensure that these animals are able to procreate in healthy populations and do not overpower the prey population. Would you rather have a sportsmen pay $40,000.00 to humanely take an animal or would you prefer that animal starves to deather because they are overpopulated for the land they inhabit? Hunters do not hunt these animals to destroy something but for an experience that you would not understand.
Rebeca commented on 'The Daily Beast - The Lion Whisperer - October 16, 2010'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341bf8f353ef0133f64a66e9970b2010-11-21T19:12:33Z2010-11-21T19:12:33ZRebeca http://www.yourpetsuniverse.comTo the person that said: "They're just animals", permit me to remind you that you are 'just' an animal too....
To the person that said: "They're just animals", permit me to remind you that you are 'just' an animal too. If you don't start showing respect for other species, you will never live up to the word "human" that supposedly describes you. The work this man does is remarkable and commendable. To all those who say he'll end up being 'lunch', think that a race car driver is also risking his life doing what he loves, so does a boxer, or a sky diver.
And the comparisons to Grizzly Man are totally unfair, since that guy was an actor that got into his head he could work with bears with no training or knowledge whatsoever.
Kevin, keep doing that incredible and loving job you are doing, and we can only wish that all men had that love and respect for other living things.
Teacakes commented on 'The Daily Beast - The Lion Whisperer - October 16, 2010'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341bf8f353ef0133f612a945970b2010-11-19T01:17:34Z2010-11-19T01:17:34ZTeacakesAnd then they eat him.
And then they eat him.
Austin commented on 'The Daily Beast - The Lion Whisperer - October 16, 2010'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341bf8f353ef0133f60bc979970b2010-11-18T03:17:31Z2010-11-18T03:17:31ZAustinI feel like a lion's mane would be super soft. In fact I think the public generally has a misunderstanding of the reality of wild animals, yes they can make strong bonds and deep relationships, but at the same time they don't speak our language, and we don't speak theirs. Attacks and accidents happen. They aren't pets. Having a special relationship doesn't change this.
Stomp commented on 'The Daily Beast - The Lion Whisperer - October 16, 2010'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341bf8f353ef013488f044d3970c2010-11-13T01:28:49Z2010-11-13T01:28:49ZStompWhat people have to remember here is that he likely sees these cats on a regular, if not daily, basis....
What people have to remember here is that he likely sees these cats on a regular, if not daily, basis. Yes, he could potentially be attacked, but the risk is relatively low, and even Ziegfried and Roy didn't stop doing their act after the attack (neither of them were killed, if you recall).
