Morning links, Day 17: Generational hockey touchstones
Every generation has its moments. A different set of morning links on that theme, as we've moved from Canada-Russia to Canada-USA in terms of matchups to make the blood boil. Blame NAFTA, the end of the Cold War, Gary Bettman - regardless, it's Canada vs USA that has topped the marquee the past decade, and at these Olympics in women's hockey, ice dance, freestyle skiing. Maybe today we get an addition to this roll call:
Depression era - Hockey Night in Canada debuts on TV:
Boomer moment to end all boomer moments:
Boomers in the U.S.:
GenX moment, Gretzky to Lemieux:
GenY - 2002 Olympic final, Canada vs. U.S.:

The Canadian women have done very well, winning more gold metals than all but a handful of countries. But I find it outrageous that the flaming feminisits of our country wish to pit women against men, by claiming the women have completely outshone the men. Maybe they have overall, I don't know. But my count shows that in gold medals it's Canadian men 7 Canadian women 5 (with one tie, ice dancing). And if it becomes 8 today with hockey, hooey on the feminists who should learn when to keep their mouth shut. Why do they have to keep making ugly comparisions like this? Simply enjoy the fabulous results of the Canadian women and weep with all of us, both men and women, with the tragic loss of women's curling.
