As an indigenous person with many issues left hanging open for well over one century, certainly, it is with mixed feelings I watched the opening games last night. Emotions are raw from the use of "Authentic Aboriginal Product" to describe the glut of goods made in China, even enraged by the attempt of the government to have Canada's record of withholding from "aboriginals" what is rightly ours viewed favorably by other nations, never mind the history of our nations among you. Still, to see my peoples in the opening ceremonies for the entire length of them, not only acknowledged but embraced, with our hand drums included the entire length of the ceremonies... to become, at least for those hours, not only accepted but applauded. It made me weep last night, even as my chin quivers now to remember the sight. Oh Canada, that was how to treat the indigenous peoples of this land!
