Grappling during a garden party

A photographer was roaming around Stéphane Dion's garden party Tuesday night and CityNews reporter Richard Madan wanted a shot of himself with the Liberal leader.

He asked whether he could have the photo taken as if he was arm wrestling with Dion.

Yes, he was told — just as long as the photo shows Dion winning.

I don't see why that's a bad thing. Recall that the picture of Stanfield dropping the football became iconic and was used mercilessly to good effect during the '74 election, even though there were other pictures of him catching it. And that was in the 70s, where politics were arguably a little less nasty. Can you imagine what the Tories would do if they had a picture of Dion being beaten in an arm wrestle? Even if he won 9 out of 10 bouts, that one of him losing would be on every tv station in the country.

Richard Madan has never lost an arm wrestling match in his life!!!
