Meet the new Mr. Green

Longtime audience members of the CBC will remember Ralph Benmergui from his days as a radio and TV host.

This morning, at the Green Party briefing at Hy's (see previous post), we learned that Ralph has signed on to be the communications guy for the Greens. Leader Elizabeth May says that one of his big jobs at the moment is finding a way to get Green Party folks used more regularly in the media on political panels and the like.

The Greens are also recruiting some famous names to be party ambassadors in the coming months, May said. Artist Robert Bateman, singer Sarah Harmer and author Farley Mowat are among the recruits, she said.

Oh, and the Hy's briefing? I'm betting that the steak house hasn't seen this many vegetarian orders at one sitting.  The salmon on the menu met May's approval, because it was wild (though she opted for gazpacho and spinach salad.)  The shrimps? Not  Green-firendly, I'm afraid. Apparently they were imported, probably from China.

Say, is that the same Elizabeth May who told a magazine reporter that "Politics is horrible. Horrible!" and "The thing about politics I really can't stand are the people in my party. They are the ones who get me down"? (Source: http://www.more.ca/work-and-money/career-and-business/elizabeth-may-or-may-not/a/21804/print)

May deserves credit. For a time she managed to earn a party with no seats - and no hope of getting one - more than its share of attention. But she has failed to earn the trust of voters or even her own party. So it's no wonder she talks about quitting in that same article.

This isn't going to be the new format of this blog, is it?

Everything is centred down the middle of the page in one BIG LONG column, and the actual post itself doesn't appear until more than half-way down (Firefox 3.1 on WinXP if your technical people are curious).

Hey, you fixed it now! thanks.

Just when I thought we were rid of the annoying Mr. Benmergui. Has he run out of CBC-insider gigs?
