In Ottawa today, the Liberals' David McGuinty is due to give a news conference on Conservative "waste," specifically surrounding spending for the G8 summit last year. Here's a sneak peek at the postcard he's releasing, exclusive to us (for now):

The summit cost less than half as much as the gun registry, and the summit blocked efforts to place a global tax on bank transactions. I know that I don't want Canadian bank transactions taxed so that the money can be spent on bailing out Greek, Icelandic or American banks that give out garbage loans. The gun registry has still done... nothing except annoy honest Canadians.

So we have the spin. What are the facts/

Whatever was accomplished at the summit has nothing to do with the amount spent to stage it.

And let's not forget the G20 summit that followed. Other summits have been staged quite nicely for less than 25% of what was spent on the foolish idea of holding one in downtown Toronto- the most densely populated urban area in Canada, and probably the most expensive possible location to secure. That's over a billion dollars wasted, and that's not even including the damage to the economy as businesses were forced to shut down while the G8 was held.

I'm in Florida till May5.How can I vote?
