I don't mean to take gratuitous pokes at Denis Coderre (he wasn't impressed with a previous reference to him on this blog) but do we really want the government poking its nose into the CBC's business? Doesn't the government have enough on its hands being all friendly with CTV?
Conservatives Should Stand Up for Hockey Night in Canada Theme
OTTAWA - Conservative Heritage Minister Josée Verner must stand up for one of Canada's most famous musical traditions and do what she can to ensure the CBC keeps the Hockey Night in Canada musical theme, Liberal Heritage Critic Denis Coderre said today.
"The Hockey Night in Canada theme is a part of Canada's culture that goes beyond sport," said M. Coderre. "This is a great opportunity for the Heritage Minister to finally get off the bench by defending an important Canadian tradition."
Mr. Coderre was responding to reports yesterday of the possible silencing of the beloved Hockey Night in Canada musical theme from the CBC's NHL broadcasts. The CBC is still negotiating with the song's composer agency, but has said it is seriously considering other options. The Minister has yet to comment.
