Bag of smarties tucked into my sweatshirt pocket, I turn to Hudson: "Are you dry?" I ask.
"No," he says and smiles.
"You peed?" I ask.
"Yes ."
"Lets go to the potty!"
"No. I'm eating."
"Come on Hudson. Potty? Please?"
"I'm out of peepee. Could you change me?" he asks.
"Let's put on a new pair of underpants!" I suggest.
"No. I want a diaper," he says. Resolute.
"But, then no smarties," I remind him.
"Okay," he says, like he doesn't care at all.
"Look," I say in my most effusive voice, "These underpants have teeth on them."
"Oh!" my boy says. He appears excited "It's a dinosaur! Okay," he says. "Underpants!"
And my efforts continue this morning.

Have you tried letting him pee like Daddy, standing up? I realize his legs are too short, but I used to let my son stand on my feet, or a small stool, and he MUCH preferred standing to pee, over sitting, even at age 2. And, doing it this way, you can also play the cheerio game...toss a couple cheerios in the toilet..ready, aim, FIRE!! :)

just finished potty training so i feel your pain. mercifully it only took 5 days, the first 2 days were the worst. have you tried putting the potty in front of the tv? it may not win you any mother-of-the-year awards but it worked for us.

Having trained both my sons I do not recommend letting Hudson pee standing up. Our first son pushed so hard to get the pee out that he pooped on the floor - definite fail! Once they mastered the toilet they were allowed to pee standing up like Daddy. Good luck Michelle - you will get through it.
