Bosh is going, but not playing

Just got home from another dreary Saturday practice and the news on Chris Bosh is bad, but not terrible.

He's going to go on the trip but just to be around the team and get treatment, Sam told the few of us hearty souls who do Saturday workouts that he's not likely to play against either Charlotte, Orlando or Miami.

It's got all to do with taking precautions, the Raptors are pretty firmly ensconced in fourth or fifth in the East and to take a chance on Bosh doing any more damage to his knee isn't worth it right now.

I get the sense that if this was the final week of the regular season and a playoff spot was on the line, it'd be different and he'd play. But there's still some swelling -- Bosh wasn't exactly walking perfectly when he left the gym to go get treatment, 'gingerly' might be the best way to describe it -- and that's enough to scare them off having him play for the next week.

Rasho will get Bosh's spot in the starting lineup, Sam said, 'cause he does a pretty good job on Emeka Okafor (Bargnani will guard Nazr Mohammed in Charlotte) and Rasho's been successful against Dwight Howard in Orlando.

It also means Andrea will be more involved in the offence but, as Sam put it today, "we don't have to worry about Andrea taking his shots."

There'll be more on this on the website and in the paper in the morning, just thought the few of you out there surfing on a Saturday afternoon should know.

You're welcome.

Thanks Doug. By the way, do you do anything but work?

Blogger's note: Oh yeah, not much during the season, though

Why did Rasho not play in Indy game?

Blogger's note: He did, not much because the game was for smaller guys, but he played, it didn't work, and he sat.

Doug Smith's Sports Blog

  • Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
