I'll be home soon

The dastardly time zones got me, on a couple hours sleep, am flying back East and won't be able to entertain you all here until this evening.

Am I the only one who wonders what Carter could have been if he had Pierce's heart?
The guy drove the lane on almost every single possession last night (helped on some occasions by some iffy Laker defence). He's got moves and smarts, but he's not the fastest guy in the world. But he's got heart.
When I see him drive the lane and pick up the foul, sucking air before he steps up to the free throw line, I have to wonder what's in Carter's mind that he doesn't do that stuff, what else is more important in his life at those moments that he won't lay it on the line? Should I care? Probably not, but it'll always be one of those what if's.

Seattle is going to try to draft Bayless, a combo guard. They also have Ridnour and Earl Watson so why would they want to get TJ FORD? Jeff Green is possibly a future star in the NBA so obviously Seattle is not going to trade him. Wilcox for expiring contracts does make a lot of sense for Seattle since they wont be able to afford him after he becomes a free agent at the end of next season. And perhaps Seattle can throw in as part of the trade one of their 3 young centers. The other trade that makes sense is with Sacramento: TJ and Raptors 17th Pick for Sacramento's Salmons, their 12th Pick and one of their 2 second rounders. At that spot the Raptors can get Joe Alexander and then hope along with Moon they become a nice tandem at the SF for many years to come.

Doug Smith's Sports Blog

  • Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
