so the rest of the world has caught up to the us in basketball in the same fashion as the rest of the world was close to usain in the 100M. the reality is, when the us sends their best their are the best and it is not even close. defeating the defending world champions by 20 is a joke. the finals would show similar results. i was wrong about russia. they won't even make the medal round. lithuania should round out the top 3. 3rd and 4th would be interesting to watch.

after the us wins the gold, i hope to see the anti-us and anti-nba player bashing stop. american players combine athleticism with hi basketball iq. so i'm hoping that i would no longer hear how much more intelligent european players are to their american counterparts.

ps. usain bolt will emerge is the king of the olympics. phelps may be good, but track and field is still the glamour sport of the olympics around the world. i'm a huge michael phelps fan, but 9.68 will be more memorable than any world record michael phelps will set.

You write: "he looked like he was carrying the ball every time he dribbled it and that might work in Europe but it probably won’t in the NBA"

Seriously? I've never seen a European game, but the NBA is completely lax in things like that.

(How do you do italics in the comments section?)

Blogger's note: Seriously. People who know say carrying the ball is even more egregious in Europe than it is in the NBA and the guys I've seen over here confirm that.
And I have no idea how to do italics or these responses would be in that style to set them apart.

Ahem.

That Spain-for-gold prediction isn't looking too promising after today. Granted, the games don't matter yet, but if Team USA plays like that . . . give them the gold.

Bosh? He's impressed. I hope he keeps playing solid defense when he heads back across the Pacific. If so he and Jermaine could be a deadly one-two punch on both sides of the court.

hi there doug. i'm a long-time reader & first time poster of a question. my question is regarding olympic coverage. as i am here in japan, i cannot access any of the CBC.ca on demand broadcasts. regrettably, this means i've gotten a (more than) healthy dosage of judo, badminton & table tennis. moreover, i've been denied basketball, rowing/kayakin' & all other sports in which there are no japanese athletes. as i've been here in japan durin' the last 3 summer games, i can't recall the nature of canadian olympic coverage so, i wanna ask; is canadian coverage as jingoistic as japanese coverage is?. also, is it because my IP address is asian, that i can't access CBC.ca's online olympic coverage? if so, it seems odd/unfair to canadians living abroad who want to see & support their athletes. thank you for your kind attention in these matters.

Blogger's note: No, I think the CBC's reputation -- and remember I've been at the last five summer Games so I don't see it myself -- is as a fair broadcaster that does good stories well told.
As for the ip thing? I have no idea, sorry.

Love the blog, long time reader.

I'm working in HK, and the local commentators is just plain bad. TV stations doesn't show sports regularly (except football[soccer]).

But saw Tennis QTR where Nadal almost got bounced. It was a really good match. So I phoned up my old men back in Toronto... Guess what, no coverage at all! It was 11.30pm local time and I expect not much is going on, but my Dad told me they are showing boxing and swimming (non-Phelps related swimming).

Watch every US Basketball games so far, and BOSH is so different. If he can incorporate this into his regular role, he will be a monster. However, it is a very different role for him on this 08Dream team. But I still can't wait for the season to start.

German lost to China!? Suprised? Strategic move????
