The Goods On The Game, Vol. 1, No. 9

Spotted in the crowd in an entirely too sedate black three-piece suit: World B. Free, usually a far more garish dresser. He was one of the most fun players ever to watch.

-

This is cold: Elton Brand's got 13 points and 11 rebounds and some fan over my shoulder is killing him for missing a free throw.

-

Kapono makes a three and it's like it's the playoffs all over again. He's looked good. Except when he's decided to dribble.

-

Brand misses another free throw and I think this guy wants him sent back to the Clippers.

-

There's 4:27 left, Toronto's up 12 and here comes Jose back in. Too early? I don't think so, they need his calm on the court.

-

Sammy Dalembert has five fouls, can no more easily guard Chris Bosh than you can and dare I say I see Leo smile?

-

Okay, kids, this is about the time I've got to cut out and finish off the game story for the web. We'll get the story and the score up soon as we can when it's over.

For now, see ya.

It's been a hoot.

Raptors 88, Sixers 79 with three minutes to go.

  • Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
