The Goods On The Game, Vol. 27, pre-game lowlights

Bet it's quiet around here tonight. Judging by the e-mails and comments that have arrived since the debacle in Oklahoma City, dozens of readers/writers are gone for the season. Just means more for you and the other diehards, right?

Last I heard from San Antonio and Jermaine O'Neal was about 45 minutes ago and he was going to try the shoulder in a warmup and then decide. You know, sort of like he did with the knee and the ankle a few times. So, I wish I had news for you, but I don't. But I do think if he does start, instead of running the first couple of plays for him in the post, they should script stuff for Bosh to see what he's got going on tonight.

Now, seated comfortably at Casa Smith with Super Son over on the couch watching with dad (mom's occupying the upstairs TV with Gilmore Girls DVDs and that's not a Super Son kind of thing), gotta run through the check list:
Clicker? Yep, Utah-Chicago's on, too.
Snacks? The two-bite brownies are in the cupboard just waiting..
Soft drinks? Chilled Diet Coke right there.
Low expectations? Oh yeah.
-
Be back in the first quarter sometime.

Leave Watson alone. Wilcox at least makes some sense.

Are we underachieving or are we a bad team? At the beginning of the season I said we probably would not make the playoffs with this group of players.

It was Bryan who said this was the best team that he has assembled in Toronto. So it is Bryan who set unrealistic expectations. At some point he will have to admit this is not a good team. The Jermaine trade handicapped him and prevented him from acquiring any good players. It is a case of having all your eggs in one basket.

It was interesting that the fans of a team that had won only two games before last night were cheering as if their team was undefeated. The Toronto fans could learn a few things from them. The Toronto fans are becoming the laughing stock of the league. It is not the team that is embarrassing us. IO bet the puckheads who haven't won anything for 41 years would not boo the team.

Hopefully it will be better tonight.

Hi Doug - Glad to hear you're all set-up for tonight's game. The Husband and I have just finished a meal of hand-rolled pasta and homemade meat sauce - the rest of the pasta made it's way into a giant lasagna that we'll eat tomorrow.

So glad that I don't have to endlessly search live streams to watch the game tonight. Although the searching did provide a distraction from the horrible game.

It will be an interesting one and I'm hoping we're going to see some confidence and aggression tonight.

Fingers crossed...

Blogger's note: Dang! Fresh pasta? Nice. Although the excellent beef stew here was pretty darn solid.

Doug, Pops definitely wearing the red shirt and black coat to look like another raptor on the floor, lol i love it

Doug,

You know how much of a basketball guy I am by now. Even if we don't win this one, we are playing a lot better than we have been lately. It's the holiday season, and although I am raged with what is going on right now, the raps have played well tonight. THOSE SECOND CHANCE POINTS ARE THE KILLER--the difference in this game, as well as many.

PS: it's good to hear you're at home with the fam for the the holidays. You sure that diet coke isn't and adult diet coke? lol

Blogger's note: I can't remember the last time I had one of those adult things at home, it's not somethign I do, it's legit Diet Coke.

Doug Smith's Sports Blog

  • Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
