Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
How do I see the goods... On a blackberry?

So much for a "I'm back" on twitter. Sounds like I'm back being a quitter. This season is lost and anyone talking about playoffs is either dreaming or born stupid. Heck. Milwaukee is playing better ball with a less stellar cast than these rapchokes.

Doug, i've been a big raps fan from the good days to the bad - and Heaven knows there's been more bad days than good... Anyway, this year, there is no question that there has been some obvious deficiencies with this club. Defensively, there is not much to say as it is obvious that they don't seem to have the type of quality defense a contender would have. However, offensively in my opinion, the problem seems to be that they don't make the extra passes... We've all heard the criticisms that this club gets its confidence purely from the offensive side of the ball. Truthfully though, they don't pass it around enough. We need more of - what some might call - those hockey assists. Why don't we get the swing passes around the arc like other teams do? Yes, we don't have enough players who try to drive as their initial mindset - which is obviously a big problem - but it doesn't mean we can't pass the ball around to make opposing defenses work a little! In my opinion, this is a major problem with this team... The ball needs to move around more.. I can't count how many times Chris shoots the ball when he gets it because of him working hard for position and not getting it... He finally gets it then feels like regardless of the defense he needs to work with his touch with the rock.. Just like Jermaine O'Neal did on a consistent basis. By no means do I mean this is a major criticism of Chris - simply an example. This happens with Joey, Andrea and others as well. We need to move this rock around... Although specifically I mean around the arc - I also mean inside then out as well.. How does Jay not address this.. I can't be the only one who believes this is the case.. Any thoughts?!?

I only saw a few minutes of the game in the 2nd quarter, but I read through the live comments just for the fun of it. I find it amusing how Doug can say the season isn't over until the last 25 games are played, yet he can say the game was over with at least a quarter still left to be played. Honestly in my opinion its the same thing, and I find it hard to believe that anybody who has watched this team all season long can still possibly believe that this group has a chance to make the playoffs.
So what if Granger and Redd and whoever else are hurt, I think its only a matter of time before Calderon and Bosh are shut down given their current injury status, and even with them its not like the raptors have been setting the league on fire. I just find it extremely hard to still have any optimism about this team for the remainder of this season.

I think I've officially given up on this season.
Calderon is a terrible defensive liability. Injured or not. I see flashes of Jose keeping his man in front of him, but there's no consistency. It doesn't seem that important to him. For the most part Calderon plays like a matador, letting his opponent blow by him on either side and forcing the rest of the team to scramble to cover for him. One or two passes later and someone is left open for a three, and chances are against the Raptors that three is made. The Raptors own the worst three point defense in the league.
If Jose wants to play for Spain this summer, trade him.
What's to be done? Tanking the season won't even help. This draft doesn't appear particularly strong, and Bosh won't wait two or three years for a draft pick this year to develop into something.

I love the Globetrotters! It was so fun watching them last night!
I love that little one, and the big tall one, and the lanky one!
I wish the PA at MSG had played Sweet Georgia Brown on a loop all night.
Lastly, when did the Washington Generals switch to red jerseys?
