Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
hey doug i know that officiating in this league must be incredibly hard with the size and speed of the players. the stars undeniably get the benefit of the doubt (lebron's travels, cp3's oscar worthy reactions to small bumps etc) but some players seem to have to actually get shot at to get a call. anthony parker seems to get hammered repeatedly and i'm actually surprised when the ref blows the whistle. both of those offensive fouls were pretty cheap today. if the refs could hear me at home then i'd get thrown out like jay did the other night!!
sorry this is getting long but is there something in the breaks/off the ball/somewhere that AP does to irritate the refs??
i could see if he was constantly in their face about every bit of contact or if he was a chippy defender himself but on tv it seems like he's a pretty clean player.
thanks doug

great game! Andrea and AP were solid, but Marion was the difference maker. hope they can now build on this win.

Without AP scoring 20 some points, they lose this game. Matter of fact, Raps will lose everytime unless AP - or Kapono or Joey - has a good game. But how often do you see 20 plus performance from these guys? Not very often.

Different looking team with the offence run and gun. Interesting to see how they pan out on the road. Here's hoping BC got it right and these guys can string a few together.
