Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
Great work this year, Doug! Appreciate the daily blog (someone should mention to MGrange that "frequency" is the key facet of a successful blog, btw) and all the extras: in-game blogs, after-game vidcaps, etc. It seems you and the Star are one of the few rags that really "get" the evolution of mass media and are capitalizing on it to create a connection with your readers. Bravo and can't wait for next season!!

You da man Doug! You were the only bright spot for the raps this year as far as I am concerned.

Agree Alan,
Only thing that I looked forward to in the season was my cup of coffee and doug's blog.

Great job Doug!
Maybe its time you consider a personal website (dougsmith.com) to house your blog and such things?
Blogger's note: I've got a pretty good gig right where I am, thanks very much

Sorry I missed the live thing today. My only question is will it take more money to sign you next year because of all the hard work blogging or are you already locked in long term?
Blogger's note: Locked in. I obviously need a better agent

Hey Doug,
Thanks a lot for keeping us entertained this season.

Hey Doug
Thanks for the chance to talk some basketball. I thought Jay did a good job pulling this team together. If Jay returns I don't think there is any doubt the team will work hard. It was pretty nice to see this team rebound and second chance points are a part of the game this team didn't have for long stretches earlier on the season. Last nite there were times when 3 black shirts were fighting for the rebounds.

Doug, I am a bit disappointed with your appearance on the fan today. You said it was common knowledge Iavaroni was shopping for a condo. As readers of your blog, we were not aware this was happening. All the Iavaroni talk before was speculation, but it seemed like your appearance on radio that you knew he was shopping for a condo and was a 100% lock for next year. I read your blog religiously because I think you are a great writer. Just a bit disappointed we were not aware of that.

Hey Doug,
I had to miss your chat this afternoon. Thanks for a great season (grunt season... the basketball one sucked!) We really do appreciate all that you do, it's way beyond the call of an average grunt, and add me to the list of people that think the Star should be compensating you a little extra for the work that you've put in this year. It's the reason I go to read the Star everyday. I start with you, and move on to the home page each morning.
Have a great summer, I'll try to check in during the playoffs, but my girlfriend and I have a deal... when the Raps are done, she gets me back.

charlie v or shawn m?

Doug Smith:
Good one. Shawn. Better defensively, more active chasing down loose balls
I recall you had chosen Charlie V previously stating that the team could hide his defensive deficiency. What made you change your mind?
Blogger's note: I guess it was seeing more Marion more often. His difficulty finishing at the rim and inability to create his own jumper is troubling, but watching him on defence and seeing how he just knows how to find space on offence gave me a new appreciation for him, stuff you cannot see on TV
