Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
I'm encouraged by this game. Chris Bosh only had 13 boards but he looked dominant down there. He was holding his own in a way I hadn't see him do all year. His commitment to the glass was obvious and long-overdue. I didn't see him get pushed around a single time, which is good news. Hopefully he can make this a more consistent part of his game moving forward.

Hey Doug,
I think Jay has done, is doing, and will do a good job for the Raps. He has shown that the players will play for him and during the hard times which is the true test he didn't wilt even when his team did. Sam always talked about defence and not surprisingly so did Jay. However the difference was that Jay's team improved while Sam's team just scored more and if they didn't score then they lost. The Raps had few defensive gems under Sam. Another key point for Jay is that players who were doing nothing to speak of under Sam have met expectations and maybe even excelled under Jay. Certainly Jay can adjust on the fly as changing mind set of players and just changing players has shown. As to injuries on players they happen and no I don't think you should trade someone because they got injured or trade someone who has shown skill but needs time to develop. There has been a lot of talk about needing a good back up PG. I think Roko has shown he will step into that role, especially if he gets some work over the summer. It sure didn't hurt B7.
I don't know about you Doug but if a team can't make the playoffs and I'm an Owner, GM, coach, player, or fan I would rather go out on a win streak to help plan for next year. Right now this team looks like it is playing within itself and not needing the big nite from AP or JK or JG to carry them over.
