Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
Man, I wish David lee was on the Raps.
What a good player.
Not spectacular, but really, really solid.
More important than the (mildly) entertaining game, though?
The child behind me who squealed with delight when he got free pizza at the end of the game.
Best part of the game, man.
I really need to make a couple of signs to bring to the game. But instead of a big D and a fence, one will be a big pistol PETE head and the other, the letters 'ZA'.
I'm joking, I think.

Though they've been unofficially dead for weeks, The Raptors playoff hopes are now officially dead.
Can't wait to see what BC has up his sleeve for the offseason. No, really.
Hopefully Colangelo can build a team that isn't so boring to watch. At this point I'd almost swap rosters with Golden State.
Ok, I take that back.

Hope this latest loss restores some sanity. The win streak produced a certain amount of giddiness -- kind of like the four-game job earlier in the season. We all know where THAT went.
This is a soft, underachieving team that has sucked its collective thumb against good teams all season.
HOWEVER, if Sawn Merion can be signed for a reasonable price, he may be the best fit to start with the Kindly B's. He can rebound and get out in transition. The Raps are unsual, in that their starting centre and point guard are excellent three-point shooters. Marion's lack of an outside shot is not a huge detriment in these circumstances.
Draft a shooting guard who can play perimeter defence and break his man down off the dribble and you could start cooking.
Pops and Joey are inconsistent but athletic and upwardly mobile. Keep em.
This team needs a back-up wing or two who can score and/or play some defence and a quality back-up point guard. There has been a litany all season that ' Roko is going to be a good one'. He MIGHT be. SOME DAY. He certainly isn't now.
We all got a little carried away with his willingness to take it to the rack late in games. On this team, that quality shines like a diamond.
Fact is though, Roko is willing to take it to the rack ANYTIME. In fact he insists on it. When he is running (?) the team, players just stand around. He is Mike James without the shot. If he can live and learn, he may prove valuable in the future. If they go into next season believing that can happen right away, I hope ALL the games are on TSN2.
