More in a minute but a trade is done

Just a quick heads-up while I write the quick story but the Raptors have made a trade, league sources tell me.

Jason Kapono's gone to the Philaelphia 76ers for Reggie Evans.

Now, off to figure the financial repercussions; will be back with a story in a little bit.

Doug, the deal works just fine as presented using the Trade Machine.

Good trade. Hopefully there are no strings attached (like us having to give up a future pick or something)

YES THANK YOU!!!!

F'ing awesome trade.

Get rid of JK's contract, ease the glut of poor-to-middling wing players, and pick up a ridiculously hard-nosed (to the point of annoying) aggressive, tough post player who also, coincidentally, has terrorized the Raptors in the past. And he's only earning 5M, expiring in 2010-11. Excellent work, Colangelo.

If this is a sign of things to come this summer, it should quiet the detractors, at least for a day or two...

There better be some financial reasons

I hope nobody on the Raps is allergic to nuts

Sad to see JK go, but a great trade for the RAPTORS!

Great deal! Thanks for the update Doug.

I knew this was going to happen!! All my years since that one game when he played for Seattle and muscled the Raps for 20 boards that game.. I said right after that "He's going to end up playing for the Raptors one day, I know it" and what do you know.. It has come full circle. It took a while, but he's finally here.

This is a very good trade by the front office. I say that because he can grab any rebound anywhere, set good, hard screens, play some nice, tough post defence and be that agressive, annoying guy that the Raps always got beaten by in the past.

I play alot of NBA games for my XBOX. I knew that my Raptors team on there needed an extra rebounding punch, so I picked up Evans. A year later, we won the Trophy. He averaged 13 rpg. A sign of whats to come? We'll see.. But good job BC.

Paul - rebounding reasons not good enough for you. Evans is a ball hawk (just ask Kaman). He cleaned the glass and doesn't looked for his shot too much. Kapono traveled every time he dribbled fouled at an alarming rate and had the other teams offense run plays at him whenever he was on the court. He never shot enough, to make up for those other areas. I liked him, he was funny, but I welcome Reggie and wish Kapono well.

Any trade that addresses needs (toughness, rebounding) while saving money seems good to me. But this does increase the glut in the front court. Does this mean Rasho is off the table? Or perhaps that Humphries could be going in another trade?

Hi Doug

Does this trade mean that Rasho is not coming?

Thanks for the info.

Blogger's note: No, it doesn't necessarily mean that at all

This is pretty much the nail in the coffin for "The Legend" in Toronto. Doug, do you think this changes Toronto's plan on re-acquiring Rasho? Thanks,

Blogger's note: I think it may be more of a case of the end of Patrick O'Bryant. And I never expected The Legend back except as a longshot anyway

Great pick up, Kapano never really fit in with this team and didn't shoot / make enough 3's to warrant his contract. Evans is a tough hard nosed competitor that the Raptors have been lacking. Hopefully we can get that sold wing player and backup PG in the draft or free agency.

So who is next out the door now that we have a glut of power forwards?

Blogger's note: Can you surmise that they now don't pick up the O'Bryant option and save $300,000 or so that way? I sure can

Yay!

im curious fellow readers...
im a bit surprised, it lookos like the raps wont draft Blair or a big,
The other side of the view is Phila got exactly what they needed, they probably won the trade, but thats looking at it from a Phila view. the needed a spot shooter, becuase they have there wings and guards in place, unlike the raptors.
but isnt hump, evans, jawaii, bosh, bargs, obryant, pops? and maybe rasho? (probably no rasho, Doug was just making up gossip from his man-crush on rasho, becuase of past relationships..)
still 7 players to play the 4-5 positions??
well I hope BC knows what he is doing,

I really had my hopes that kapono and fillers/picks would be traded for crawford, but kaponos value is worth nothing more then a 10 minute bench player, wishful thinking of kapono for crawford/starter ...... oh well.

hope the trade works out and allows BC and the coaches to implement there plan.

Blogger's note: You are so dead wrong, it's not even funny. If you've been paying attention, and it appears you haven't, Bryan talked about Rasho at the end of the season and we've been writing about him since about March. Pops has been nothing but a longshot to return since a day after the season ended, another, um, miss by you. And the Raptors have the option on O'Bryant so he's not a certainty either.
Nice work with facts, though, and thanks for writing, even though the paying attention to what's been written could use some improvement.

There is a god after all. Doug, I've been after you for years to pick up Reggie (in the fantasy land I had concocted where you had magical GM powers; and yes, not to worry, I'm seeing a therapist about those fantasies). And all these years, you poo-pooed Reggie, and to be fair, he's not as much of a rebounding beast as he used to be, but I'll take him in a HEARTBEAT over JK. Love JK's personality, hate his game.

SWEET!!! did not see this coming for sure.....

Great work by BC in bringing a guy like, but now what happens with Rasho and Pops? can we bring in both or just one?
and Doug do you see more trades happening soon?

Blogger's note: Not soon, no

This opens the door for another sharpshooter. BRING DELL'S BOY BACK TO CANADA!

P.S good work Doug,
nice to see that your the first ones to report the trade,
i didnt see it on any other website/paper,
just the star.

great work. (for a mediocre write...(had to jab you)

also even if they let obryant go, still we have alot of players for the 4-5 spot. and most are just 10-12 man

Nice reply to fg!

The funny retort to moronic postings almost makes up for having to read the first few lines to figure out they are moronic...

Doug - You are usually bang on when it comes to your assessments, so I ask you this...does this mean this opens the door for Delfino to come back? Get rid of one backup wing player and bring in another? Be honest Doug, You've been pretty adamant that the last thing they need was a scoring challenged big man. This one must have caught you completely off guard.

Blogger's note: Entirely off guard but it does ease a glut and give them a veteran big. And it'll have no bearing on Delfino, who was someone they expected to sign long, long, long before this ever came up

Wow, this isn't bad at all. I liked Jason, but Evans might be what the Raps need. It'll be interesting to see if all the Colangelo haters who also hated Kapono will keep quiet or admit that this was a decent move. Of course, as soon as Evans has a bad game or two, everyone will say it was a horrible deal. Such is life in Raptorland.

Hmm, wonder if the fact that he's Tyreke Evans' brother had anything to do with it. Latest reports suggest he might not be around when the Raps pick at #9, but having your brother on the team would seem to be a good way to ease the transition to the NBA and help alleviate the anti-Toronto/Canada sentiment some players seem to have.
