Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
I mentioned this in the chat, but if there was any way to get DeMar jersey #36, then he could have the greatest nickname ever:
36DD.
Blogger's note: In a ridiculous, sexist, Neandrathal kind of way, it's not even mildly interesting.

what are the chances DeRozan steps in and becomes a star in his first year?

Is a nickname really required? DeMar DeRozan isn't unique enough?

my take is that Rubio will not play one game in the Twin Cities, not his preferred site or destination....thats why the Flynn pick, in my opinion...he'll be dealt soon...

Doug, thoughts on Jennings' comment about getting more basketball experience and the benefits of playing in Europe instead of NCAA?
Blogger's note: I think he may be over-stating things, but he did play against men and that's a bit tougher, I guess

What's the chance that Turk may land on Toronto, I think he is a guy that's fit in this team.

Oh god it has begun! Please no nicknames... Matt Devlin please don't do it!
Are there any plans in the Raps organization to push the Rogers Centre people to remove the stupid "100 point-free pizza giveaway" that ruined a bunch of games last year for die-hard fans like you and I, Doug?

Hey Doug,
I know that Rubio is very young, and I hear he is not a great shooter yet, but do you think his time with Calderon last year during the olympics helped in his growth? It must have right? (well I guess I answered my own question) your thoughts?
Posted by: Striker77 | June 27, 2009 at 01:21 PM
Couple questions Doug:
1) Why the Turkoglu talk? As far as fit playing with the Raptors, I have to think that Marion is a far better fit. What is it some of the Raps brass see in Hedo as a fit?
2) What is Derozan like off camera? First impressions can be way off, but I've been floored at how well DeMar has said "all the right things" in front of the camera. Is he as well spoken and thoughtful off camera? If the kids walks the walk he talks, he could be fantastic!
Blogger's note: They like the idea of having a 6-10, matchup-nightmare, ball-handling, better shooting veteran in their lineup; but it doesn't matter, it's not likely to happen anyway.
DeRozan, for the 45 minutes I spent in his company, seems like a good, level-headed kid.

wheres the morning blog?
Blogger's note: In a shocking development, after three or four days of pretty intense work, I actually took a Saturday morning off until I had to go cover the Argos.

OK, thanks for heads up Doug, just didn't see it posted anywhere that you took the day off. I was worried for you Doug, we we're worried for you.
Blogger's note: Mail's in, I'm off to make birdies and the odd double.
I appreciate the concern :)
