It's done, with one slight change, and another

So long, Nate.

Because of a contract technicality involving Quincy Douby, the blockbuster four-team trade now sees Nathan Jawai headed to the Memphis Gizzlies.Dallas Mavericks.

(The original Jawai mistake was mine, I misread some information; Memphis now gets a 2016 second-round pick from Toronto to make up for the fact they won't get Quincy Douby)

But the deal is done.

Douby signed a couple of 10-day contracts with the Raptors are the end of last season and another that covered the final couple of days of the regular season and under one of the more obscure clauses in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, he couldn't be dealt again in time to satisfy the needs of the Toronto-Dallas-Memphis-Orlando trade.

One league source termed it a "hiccup" that was resolved this morning.

And now that the official trade conference call with the league is over, the deal is done.

Again, it's Hedo Turkoglu, Antoine Wright and Devean George here, Shawn Marion and Kris Humphries and Nate to Dallas, now Jawai a second-round pick and Jerry Stackhouse to the Grizzlies and a trade exception to Orlando.

Plan on a 4 p.m. news conference here.

EVEN BETTER Doug. So Long Nate. Welcome back Q

Now that it's official... that's sweet news for Raptors fans. Go Raps Go.

Jawai?

That's really unfortunate. Trading away our future instead of spare parts.

Still had to be done, but dang.

Absolutely top-drawer work, Doug. There's NObody in the business who delivers the goods like you do (literally). You may not always be the first with the news, but you're hands down the best with the news — and it's reliable! Bravo. And enjoy that summer break if and when it finally shows up.

NOOOOOO not Nathan :( WHYYYY!!! well we know why... but still! I wanted to see him develop in Toronto :(

Way to go Bryan, you won a bit of my faith back in you.

Now please use that MLE to find us someone who can play some defense!...

do you think Hedo will be at the news conference?

Blogger's note: Yes

BC will rue the day he traded Jawai.:)

so does this increase the odds of pops coming back??

Ouch. After sitting around for months (literally) for his rookie season, we never really got a chance to see what Nate could do with a training camp under his belt. I recall one pre-draft description of him. "Big Baby with explosiveness". Would have been nice to see his development. Hope we don't lament the day, years from now. Plus, we never got to use his new nickname. The Something Behemoth. What was it, Doug?

Doug, how does the Grizzlies benefit from all of this? Does Mark Cuban or the Raptors sent the Grizzlies a lot of $$?

-SY

Blogger's note: Not a lot, but enough.

Uh oh, I predict about 30 "now that Nate is gone, are they going to resign Pops?" questions over the next few hours .... Have fun Doug

Brilliant deal by BC and the management..I prefer the idea of the team retaining Douby.

Soooooo still in the summer league then! I wonder who pointed out the obscure clause?

Any chance you know where I can watch this online, since Raptors TV isn't on this side of the world?

Blogger's note: Sorry, I don't. Raptors.com maybe?

talk about creativity and imagination ... I would have NEVER seen this one coming. Well done to all involved.

Thanks for the heads up. It's too bad to see Nate go, I hope that he does well.

Thanks for the update Doug, the things I would miss out on at work if not for your blog. Will you be on the radio anytime soon? I'd like to hear you discuss analyze this move.

The engineering of this deal is further proof that Colangelo is the best GM in the NBA. Brilliantly executed...it's reassuring to know that someone in Toronto sports knows what the heck he's doing.

Goodbye Nate, we hardly knew ya. I am just waiting for the first post form someone stupid enough to say that we should have not done the trade because the Raps are giving up a potential future all-star.

Doug - Any idea if any picks are involved - like conditional 2nd rounders that never get exchanged?

P.S. - Ban RayR as he should give it up - I posted my guess (which turned out to be darn close to what happened) prior to him that day.....but it was only a guess.

Hmm I thought Jawai was going to be a prospect that the Raps were going to develop to play the C spot behind Bargnani. Has he always been considered bench fodder? Kind of sad to see him put into the deal like this. Whose going to back up Bargs now?

ok Doug...what's the word on the street...who do they sign now....Rasho, Delfino or Kleiza....or someone else...what do you think ?

Blogger's note: I haven't been on the street yet, been at this keyboard

Are you a bit disappointed that Nate is gone now? Being that he had some great stories growing up in Aus. I just hope that Nate gets a fare chance in Memphis, or if bought out somewhere else. He seemed like a nice guy and I think he could have developed into a fare player.

Oh no, we had to give away big Nate...
BC got fleeced again :-)) (this is the term used by one of the Raptors bashers on this area for Delfino for 2 2nd rounders deal)

yay, press conference time at 4 pm

thanks doug!!!!!

We will regret dealing Nate Jawai. He had all kinds of potential being a MVP in the Australian League.

Wish him all the best.
