The deal is done, Belinelli for George
He got him.
A conference call to confirm the deal is scheduled for late Thursday morning as the Raptors have traded Devean George and “a little bit of cash” to Golden State for the 6-5 guard from Italy.
We’ll have more on this in the morning, and its implications on the possible signing of free agent Carlos Delfino but the deal provides the kind of shooting off the bench and depth the Raptors covet.
Belinelli averaged 8.9 points and 2.1 assists per game with the Warriors last season. The 23-year-old is comfortable playing both guard position spots and has been a target of Colangelo’s for a year.

doug do you think that the raptors get delifno now?

"If you want a good defender, leader and veteran you would trade Banks, Ukic and Bellineli to New Orleans for Posey. Hey, you get older, but with age comes wisdom."
please Mark! for Dougs sake stop with the ridiculousness!

Doug do the raptors get Delfino now? What eles do they neeed to add? I think more toughness????

Is there anyone worth signing for the minimum to shore up the 3 spot?

To those that are concerned about about our lack of depth at sf, George did not solve it. He is no longer even a role player in the NBA. Am I the only one that watched Belinelli kill teams offensively all season? GS got rid of him because Don Nelson said so, his reasoning usually isn't very logical.
Another great move by the Raptors. No reason why we can't be the 4th team in the Eeast

What's your honost opinion about this trade Doug?
Blogger's note: It's a good deal
Posted by: Chops | July 29, 2009 at 11:48 PM
we lost more toughness and still are lacking anyone other then turk at the 3.
BC isnt done yet. so i am sure he will fill that void just when and who?
I am happy we are not going after Delfino and I am not sold on Belinelli, he is talented but still hasnt proven anything.

This adds another good asset. Belinelli can shoot for 3's and pass the ball.
Eventually they can package a couple players together in a trade to fill the right depth positions if they stockpile as many tradeable assets as possible.
Not sure how much of a concern the back-up SF spots should be. If push comes to shove, I'm sure DeRozan can play some 3.. he's the same height as Richard Jefferson.. 6'7". For cripes sake, we had Bargnani playing SF for part of last season, and didn't have a real SF until we got Marion. Hedo, DeRozan and Wright is total luxury by comparison at the 2-3.
I'd still love to see Warrick in a Raps uniform if BC can find another rabbit in his hat.
Sign and trade involving us signing Marcus Williams and flipping him with Douby or Ukic for Warrick??? Can you do that?
Did Memphis actually want Douby in the original Orlando deal or was that just a salary plug?
Blogger's note: He was a minimum salary guy included in the deal for his money, not his play

anyone who wants a good laugh check out how mad some of the warriors fans are on the warriors blogs... if you eveluated trades on fans opinions the Raptors have just commited a crime. and BC should be arrested 4 stealing.

DirtNasty: Nope, he can't and hopefully won't ever have to play SF on the Raps.
Mark: Nope, he'll probably be a defensive liability, as he's always been, and that's really going to be the sticking point on whether or not he becomes a solid NBAer. What's even more worrisome is... well, if you guys were worried about Wright's rebounding, worry no more because he can't be as bad as Belinelli in that regard. =)
That said, he could be valuable in spurts, and if Belinelli coming to the Raps means goodbye to Delfino, then I'm all for that. What would be *ideal* now is if we could fill the last spot with someone who can play both the 3 and the 4. I'd love for Kleiza to be that guy but he'd have to settle for a minimum contract so I'm not sure he'd bite. Wright *can* fill in at the 3 from time to time, but he's more suited to playing at the 2.

Marco Bellinelli is a stud. i live in oakland and have wathced him for 2 years. he is my favorite player, and now the dumb ass warriors have made another mistake in trading a star of the future. Toronto is getting a great playr.

Doug,
Assuming the acquisition of Belinelli means Delfino is out of the picture, does Wright now become the principal back-up to Turkoglu at the 3?
Blogger's note: Could very well be that's how it turns out

I'm a Warrior fan and you guys just completely screwed us on this trade. You'll enjoy watching Belinelli.

Should the Raps not be able to reacquire Delfino can they even afford a new SF? I thought their remaining money HAD to go to Delfino?

Another outstanding move.
Can't wait for the season to start.

Woodbridge Raptors.
Posted by: Jack | July 30, 2009 at 12:05 AM
Doug, is this possible?
Trade Roko for cash.
Sign Delfino.
Sign Pops.
Will we have enough money left? Do you know?
Blogger's note: Could work but you need to find a home for Roko; just saying "trade him for cash" doesn't work
Posted by: Chris | July 30, 2009 at 12:05 AM
Doug,
I've always been with you about pops. But maybe now it makes sense...
Posted by: jesse | July 30, 2009 at 12:07 AM
Overall, a horrible deal. They should have at least thrown in Banks for Wright and Randolph, considering how badly Golden State wanted to get rid of Belinelli.*
*sarcasm

we should add a guy from spain and a guy from turkey to keep jose and hedo happy aswell :D

This is great great news !!! I have been calling for this guy for over a season and it is finally done and for nothing more than George, thats awesome.........
How he managed to get away wothout having to throw a pick in is amazing......
This has been an insane summer for the Raps, kudos !!!

Ok this kid is amazing. On offense, he can score with the best of them. I'm not too sure about his D. When I was watching him in Europe, I actually thought he had the potential to be the next big thing.

Colangelo the genius, the best GM in professional sports in my opinion.
Belinelli could challenge for 6th man of the year. This team offensively could be the best they've ever had in terms of any member of the starting 5 being able to get 15+ pts either off the jump shot or drive.
