The Shawn chatter's in the wind, but nothing is imminent
Well, here we go.
I’m not sure how far along this is – and neither does ESPN.com's Marc Stein, I don’t think – but the first very public story about Shawn Marion hit the web a while ago.
As I said earlier, Dallas was a pretty good fit right off the bat with a spendthrift owner and a need for a rebounding athlete.
Whether anything happens or not remains to seen and according to every league source I’ve spoken to, Bryan Colangelo is not – NOT – taking back additional salary cap obligations. I take that to mean if they're going to take on Jerry Stackhouse, as Marc suggests, it's only for a minute till they move him and his small guarantee along.
That means, as Marc pointed out, there’ll have to be a third team involved and that always gets convoluted. And means this is far from done.
It’s always been expected that Bryan would help Shawn get as good a deal as he can; it’s for certain that he’s not going to help if it means taking on cap hits and putting any kind of dent in financial flexibility the Raptors may have.

The Raptors owe Marion nothing, why make a trade that brings the team nothing in return. How can Dallas have room and Toronto does not. This soft cap is a joke!

Hey Doug
Can you explain why a trade is an advantage to the team acquiring Marion? Wouldn't they get him cheaper if he was simply a free agent? They wouldn't have to trade away a player and maybe pay less money without competition in the marketplace?
Blogger's note: Just did.

Nothing against Hedo, I think he's a really good player, but signing him this has to be the dumbest thing that BC has done so far. And before anyone thinks that I'm anti-BC and want him gone, I don't. As a matter of fact I thought that the O'Neil trade was a good one, it just didn't work out (They had to get rid of TJ, they needed toughness and rebounding, and Andrea wasn't half the player he is now).
If Hedo and his wife love the idea of moving to Toronto so much, and it was a major reason for him signing, then why did BC have to sign him for more than Portland. Why couldn't he sign him for a few million less?
Also Doug, you had mentioned in a previous post that you prefer Hedo in the long run over Marion. Marion from what I've been reading, is only going to get around $6 million. Correct me if I'm wrong, but with Marion the Rap's would have $4 million (give or take), and wouldn't have to renounce their rights to Parker and Carlos Delfino. With Marion they have a good idea of how the team will play. With Marion they'd have something that resembled a bench (Parker and Delfino would be on it, plus the $4 million could get them a piece or 2). At least with Marion they'd have someone who can rebound. At least with Marion they wouldn't have to start D² right away and can work him in (Parker could start the season as the starter).
What is it that Hedo has that Marion doesn't? OK, he scores a few more points per game than Marion, but then again the Rap's have never been lacking in putting points up on the score board. Marion is a better rebounder, better defender, something that the Rap's have been lacking for years.
End of rant.

Hey Doug...
Your comment on how many of these post you post is full of lies. The other day I sent a message complimenting your visit on the McCowan show. I'm not a McCowan fan, so I mentioned (nicely) that "I am not a fan". You didn't display my post. So tell me, as we live in the land of the "free" whi I am not allowed to dislike a show on the radio or television? And when I mention it you decide that that is not appropriate...having an opinion? Do you feel McCowan is gonna read ( I highly douht it)or here about my post and never invite you on agaion? Is this what coward stance you take? You kids must be losers after going through life being taught how to run from another opinion about a guy you kiss major ass with. I know it and you know it -your more greedy to kiss ass to a McCowan for your "exposer" or because of your lack of exposer then you are allowing someone there right to say "Hey I have a opinion, that doesn't agree with yours". It wasn't rude it was just stated, and you fail the "freedom" system. You should be fighting for the Afganies they are like that too. Anyone against the Teleban and you will be silenced - Cause I Doug Smith have control. Way to suck up to a loser show cause your struck by being on t.v. From now on I iwl refer to you as McCoward - The ass kissing sidekick of that loser McCowan.
Blogger's note: You know, I was going to delete this just to tick you off enough that you'd go away forever but then I figured some readers should see the crap I have to deal with
Trust me, Bob McCown (if that's who you're referring to) cares less about what you think than I do. And after all this name calling, you can imagine how little I think if you

Another day of clicking the refresh button!

so we get basically nothing for Marion=Oneal&Banks & 1st rd draft pick = Nesterovic+Ford+1st rd draft pick???
and don't say we got Turk because those are 2 seperate transactions...
Blogger's note: In your mind they are but it's hard to see how O'Neal for Marion isn't connected to Marion leaving for Turkoglu. But look at it that way if you like.

Did my comment from this morning about the possibility of including Banks, in a Marion and Banks for Stackhouse and Shawne Williams and/or Devean George disappear into the holes of the interweb because it became redundant with today's blog post? Or did I do something to offend you?
Blogger's note: All I will say is your level of impatience is quite impressive. Sent at 5:25 a.m., when most of us were sleeping, was posted about 10 minutes ago after I got through writing and posting the 35 or 40 that arrived overnight
I will add this: Yeesh. Chill

My, my... you get some nasty ones, don't you? But here is a thought and maybe you can explain to me why it doesn't work because I don't have a clue about a GM's job like 99.9% of the people who think they do.
1) Hedo, okay but is he the player the Raps need for that price?
2) Still, would a trade or sign and trade or whatever worked out Raps/Knicks Marion, Banks, Hump for David Lee?
Maybe, D'Antoni does not want anything to do with Marion anymore.
And, actually I do enjoy your site. Some comments are nice to read and make it interesting and others are down right ridiculous and make me laugh. So, there.... have a good one.
Blogger's note: The Knicks want absolutely nothing to do with anyone with a contract that goes beyond next year and that'd be particularly true of backups and journeymen like Hump and Banks

Whops sorry Doug, didn't see that my earlier comment had slipped in there! When I first checked it wasn't there! My apologies! Please disregard the last one!
Blogger's note: Damn, which I could have. Guess I'm impatient :)

Is trading Marcus Banks for Mo Pete a realistic option?
Blogger's note: No,I don't think so

Jamie Buckingham is back..maybe you and Eric can be friends?
Learn how to spell!!

Hey Jamie Buckingham, maybe you should go to fadoo.ca and post your hatred for McCown there and see if his admins allow it. I actually think you will, that would go along with your obvious lack of intelligence as demonstrated by your post. Your parents must be really proud of what they produced. Please get some help. Really, seriously, get some help. Or anyone that knows Jamie, get him some help, since he probably won't understand this.

Will there be any chance of the Marion S&T happening tonight or early tomorrow? I have read that the NBA isn't too fond of teams holding up signings (Turkoglu) and they have placed fines and penalties on personnel/teams that do.
Blogger's note: You've heard wrong. The NBA doesn't really care when signings are done, as long as they meet cap requirements.

Doug,
if oneil for marion is related to Turk, why isn't charlie v for TJ for Oneil for marion related? is it just too remote?
there was an earlier post about Charlie V's stats, versus those of Turk... almost identicle, but charlie V is younger, and costs less. Albeit, he is less of a character guy.
