Grunt TV is GREAT! A little entertaining, a little informative. I'm looking forward to seeing all the places that it pops up around the league! (Don't let the other Grunts give you too much of a hard time, they're just jealous because they're stuck in print!)

Doug, you need to ask for a raise...based on grunt tv and comparing it to your pic...it looks like you have slimmed down a lot...i think you need a cheeseburger

WOW, Nice job Doug. Really tech master.
Do you have the permits to do it also on court during practice or some other Tv does have the exclusivity ?

Ehi, I hope that the price to get 1 minute commercial there during Raps-Magic game isn't so high...

Blogger's note: Not sure where I can go, all to be learned in time.

Sounds like a great plan! Keep it up!

Nicely done

Dougie...

Still think I like the post game wrap ups you used to do last year. But this still rocks, we get more info I hope!! Miss seeing you on PTS with Bobcat...what's up with dat!

That was great Doug! Keep up the good work.

Great Debut Doug!!
Looking forward to seeing this regularly!

However, I do disagree with your prediction. It is going to be Lakers vs. Cavs and the Lakers taking it again this year.

Do the Lakers know that you swiped the Larry O'Brien trophy the last time you were in LA?

Doug,

I, too, have to disagree with your predicting the Spurs coming out of the West. All of the top 8 players are past their peaks, and some of them with surely be injured or out-of-gas by playoff time. My prediction: Raptors over Lakers in 7 (That's why they call us "fans".)

Doug,

Enjoyed the first episode of Grunt TV and I look forward to many more. My only suggestion is that you raise the webcam (or if the camera is built-in, the computer) to eye level so that we aren't looking up your nostrils (as pretty as they may be).

Blogger's note: Yeah, we're working on the production values

I love it. You and your bosses at the star deserve kudos for this idea. You can count on me watching regularly.

nice job doug!! one suggestion though. dont record this with your laptop on a surface lower than your face; we dont really want to see up your nose!!!

Great stuff Doug! Us fans really appreciate all your hard work and dedication to making this season an informative and entertaining one in many ways!

Doug, you're a writer - a very good writer - and sometimes it's fun to read, especially when I'm using my phone to catch up on Raps news - the bandwidth for video sometimes isn't there, but the words can usually make it through. The raptors players don't make appearances at "learn to watch blogs" events, they appear at reading events. Please continue to write at the same quality and quantity that you do, and don't sacrifice video for text.

Please don't do more GruntTV than GruntWORDS(tm). Your words are still worth more than 1000 pictures. There is a reason Jennifer Hedger hosts SportsCentre and not you, and why I ask you basketball questions and not JH.

If I want video blogs, I can get that from Devlin at raptors.com

Have fun with your shiny toy, but remember what pays the rent!!

Hey Doug,
Thanks for your hard work and dedication to us, your readers/viewers.

Doug, Re. permits...dont ask, just do it till someone tells you otherwise - I'm only half-kidding...Its only when you ask if you can do it that middle-management types see it as a chance to earn their keep and all kinds of conditions and rules get waved about.

P.S. Congratulations on the slimmed-down toned look - 'GRUNT 2.0' if you will (in the parlance of our times...) What IS your secret?

Blogger's note: Clean livin'

Did I see an ashtray with half-smoked hand-rolled cigarettes in the background?

Good work, Doug, as always.

hey doug,

I have a weird question... Do other grunts across the league, call other grunts, grunts? or is that just you? or a canadian thing?

Blogger's note: That's an old-school term not currently in vogue, except here, that is.

That was awesome! Fearless. How many takes? Btw, I seriouly hope the bosses fork out a ton of coin for all your hardwork.

Blogger's note: Just a couple, no interruptions from Super Dog.

Thanks Doug, Nice one with a bold prediction.
BTW where did you get this beautiful trophy???

Blogger's note: Kobe? No, the NBA sent some out a year or so ago

Nice addition to a fun service!

Two things, v1.0 (hey, of MG can do it, so can I!)

One small note: not that the inside of your nostrils aren't handsome, but maybe prop the laptop a bit higher so you're looking directly at it...? :)

My fearless prediction for the Raps this year: 43 wins, IF they don't implode following the first 20 ugly games of the schedule.

I have to agree that you look really good! How is the "no fresh air" thing working out anyways? Keep up the great work!

Blogger's note: I have my moments of straying.

Well, someone's gotta do the Grunt work, and I think we're pretty much unanimous, you de man! This is just kooky and endearing enough to go viral, bigger than H1N1. I especially like the slightly out-of-synch "wanna fight, eh, funny guy" audio wackiness. So Doug, can we look forward to an episode or three in Full D Smith Rant Mode? A couple of "Yeesh"es, a "C'mon, get serious, man!" and a "What a load of crap" or two? That would truly be worth the price of admission!! Great stuff, Doug, you've been raising the bar every season and you remain in a league all your own. A Grunt among grunts. Looking forward to a great season. Let's NBA!

What a great addition to the blog!
Yet another reason to visit the site at least 5 times a day...

I've always wondered... what is Doug Smith's game day routine?!

Thanks again!

Doug Smith's Sports Blog

  • Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
