Tough break for the tough guy

The Raptors are going to have to do with one fewer big man for the rest of the pre-season.

Reggie Evans, who suffered a “left mid-foot sprain” in Wednesday’s loss to Boston, has no return date specified, although all the team’s release says it is “likely that he misses the remainder of the pre-season.”

That would be Thursday night against Houston, a Sunday afternoon rematch with Boston and the pre-season finale a week from Friday in Sioux Falls, S.D., against Minnesota.

It’s just another in a rash of injuries that have hit the team since before camp and if the goal of any NBA franchise is to escape the pre-season healthy, the Raptors have failed miserably.

Antoine Wright hasn’t played yet with a sore knee, Sonny Weems missed a game with a sore knee, Chris Bosh sat out a couple with a hamstring and now Evans is on the shelf.

Evans’s injury opens up more time for Amir Johnson and Rasho Nesterovic in a backup big man role.

Man we need Reggie back for Cleveland. But atleast now Amir can play more. Any idea why he didn't play till late 3rd last night, cause his energy was needed.Anyway great blog Doug, Im a long time reader, first time commenter.

Blogger's note: Last night was about Bosh, Bargnani and Turkoglu and they had to play together

It is a long season, I hope with all the injuries in the preseason it means there won't be any in the post season.

....let's just hope there is a post-season William. Evans is an important defensive piece to the puzzle.

Hey Doug,

I know this training camp is all about defense and I was wondering if you noticed how easily the rockets were scoring last night. It was really sad to see a Rockets team led by Ariza and Brooks score at ease. I know the Raps are trying to limit buckets in the paint, but hat about defensive assignments? Battier can only be an offensive threat when receiving open looks. Is Triano preparing his troops properly??

Blogger's note: Yes, they hit 12 three-pointers and they need to tighten up the perimeter defence.
