Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
Hmm. That was kind of disappointing. Not because it wasn't a great game -- it was. But the last two shots by Turk were what I don't like when Bosh gets the last shot. I'd rather see what you suggested they should run, and then take the best shot. I always hate it when one guys just tries to (or is told to) just go one-on-one.

Re: Bargs avoiding the charge by making that neat little side step on the way to the layup: Great minds think alike, Doug. I had the exact same thought: last year he runs headlong into the defender. But here's where we might differ: just not drinking the Koolaid yet where DD is concerend. Oh, I have no doubt he might turn into a very good player a number of years from now. But frankly, I think Weems has as much upside, if not more. Same freakish athleticism, but on a considerably more muscular frame, with waaaaaaaaay better form on his jumper. And he's just three years older (23 vs 20), so no big issue there. I'm not advocating replacing Demar with Sonny or anything; but I think Jay should monitor Derozan's effort, and if it's lacking in any particular game, I wouldn't hesitate to sub Weems in, if only to send a message. So, do great minds think alike on this one too?
Blogger's note: They do, a little bit, yeah

Jack is not getting it done. The experiment of Calderon and Jack together, I hope is over. We are getting great contributions from others. Keep Jack in the backup point guard role and define his minutes and position on the team. This will allow him to settle into his role and allow Jack to help rather than hurt his team.
Sonny Weems impresses me every time I see him - most notably during the preseason. I would like to find more minutes for him but we are getting great contributions from Belinelli and Wright. DeRozan must be more aggressive, something we see from time to time with the focus of the aggressiveness on the offensive boards. Something Amir Johnson is aptly demonstrating.
We are starting to see consistent effort. This goes to the depth of talent in the lineup and Triano having faith in that depth. When someone is not showing up, Triano has options and apparently is not afraid to go to his bench. Eventually this will translate into more wins. Keep hope alive.
