You say you'd be worried about a guy who doesn't get ticked off at losing his starting spot. Two points: 1. He's a career back-up who was signed to back up Calderon. 2. Jose wasn't ticked off at losing his starting spot. Were you worried about him? Calderon is a team guy first and foremost so even when he goes to the bench he's cheering on his teammates and happy for their success. Jack was pretty sullen on the bench. Maybe he'll get over it. I hope so.

You can tell Bea Arthur that UBC always is expected to do well at nationals and always blows it. That's the fun of the CIS tourney for me - watching them implode! As for Carlton always winning, they've yet to win seven in a row like UVic.

Blogger's note: That's a point Ken Shields makes every time I see him. :)

Doug Smith's Sports Blog

  • Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
