Bosh to Miami? So says one guy

Just filed a quick news story to my desk about the Bosh-to-Miami deal that's being reported off an ESPN fellow's tweet.

No one I talked to at the Raptors can confirm or will deny it; the free agency period hasn't even begun and they are not about to run afoul of the NBA's head off.

Look for the news item shortly and then let me spend a few hours trying to make sense of it. I will say it runs counter to what I've heard as the Raptors opinion of Mike Beasley for months.

But, as we know, strange things can happen this time of year; things aren't done until they're done; and one move may just be something to set up another.

Stay tuned.

How about getting Haslem instead of Beasley? I like Chalmers and Anthony ... It would be funny if Bosh signs with Miami and Wade+James signs in NYC/chicago or elsewhere

Is there a reason you posted this Doug? it all stems from some wacky unreliable source to begin with. Did you have any other cross referenced source before you put it up as a story?

I would love to see Kobe beat up on the whatever "dynasty team" that James/Wade/Bosh is planning to build.

Bosh will have a bad statistical year in Miami. He WON"T GET NEARLY as many possessions with D-Wade handling the rock, He will continue to get POUNDED in the paint without a true center to play alongside. He'll have LESS shooter to pass to. And he'll be tired every game due to not having as deep a bench like the Raps. These are facts people, Bosh is overrated.

Dan W you are wrong...very,very wrong...Bosh can choose his team but if the Raps can't work out a sign and trade then BC doesn't have to make one and Bosh loses out on 30 mill....so its definitely a mutual relationship, so yes in theory Bosh is a "free agent" but its definitley in his interests to go to a team that raps can work out a deal with....so BC does have bargaining power as well its a misnomer so say he doesn't...

Doug, do you believe (or has there been any indication) that the BP oil spill in the Gulf may become a factor in regards to free agents signing with teams located in the southern states i.e. Miami, Orlando, New Orleans, possibly the Texan trio? There have already been reports of sickness related to this ongoing oil spill, and today it's been reported the tropical storm Alex has spewed oil onto roads and near-by beaches. This is a problem no one is really talking about, and I'm just wondering if NBA is in any way aware of what's going on in the Gulf in regards several of its teams located in the area. Thanks

Blogger's note: Don't imagine it's an issue

Who's better, who's best for Raptors:

Beasley, 21 years old, $4.8mil, 6'10, 14.3ppg, 6.4rpg, in 30mpg

Turkoglu 31 years old, $10mil, 6'10, 11.3ppg, 4.6rpg, in 30mpg

Who would you choose ?? Is their any question ??

Guys....the Raps have very little leverage here to demand a lot in a S&T. Anybody remember what the Raps got from the last big sign and trade? A conditional first rounder from Orlando for T-Mac.

Not to stoke the rumour mill but, apparently a source is claiming that Lebron is trying to recruit Ray Allen to join the Miami Superteam:

http://network.yardbarker.com/NBA/article_external/Source_Allen_May_Take_Less_To_Join_Heat_Big_3/2822049

I'm thinking this is becoming less likely now that Doc has chosen to come back. I wouldn't imagine he would come back without knowing that Ray and Pierce are likely to return.

hahah doug....that was funny man.... i kind of hope that happens too (people would surely not miss me here) and i would be doing something productive instead....

For what it's worth, I think it's time that the Raps begin a real rebuilding process and not try to salvage an 8th place finish every year without really improving. Empty the cupboard and start building a new future.

Hope this deal is true.

Michael Beasley has talent - can score and rebound a little and is VERY young and will get better.

Mario Chalmers is an excellent defender at the point who can get steals and is a decent offensive player.

Joel Anthony is a professional who can block shots, take a charge, rebound and play hard defense. And he is Canadian!

They are all assets and not a bad deal compared to getting nothing for Bosh.

I know that there are question marks with Beasley but my bigger worry is a $10mm+ TPE in Colangelo's hands. I have no confidence in Colangelo to spend wisely anymore. The last thing this team needs is another short-term fix centred around an above-average player with a big long-term contract, which is exactly what a TPE is going to net the Raps.

Doug, can you think of one quality NBA trade other than the Kurt Thomas deal that used a TPE? Give me some hope.

now that i think about it, i think steve kerr bailed out on the phoenix suns... yeah, i know he resigned....but he should have probably still been a part in the contract talks with amare stoudemire till today (june 30) when presumably his contract expires.... case in example, rod thorn is staying with the nets for another 2 weeks to oversee free agency.... but again, robert sarver might have had something to do with not keeping steve kerr on board till june 30 (amare stoudemire contract talks)...... but if not, steve kerr bailed out on the team.... peace....keep it classy people.....

I get tired of hearing people questioning BC's competence...he at least tries, and had no power or sway in getting a free agent to sign...i am sure in hindsight as the Nuggets are saying to Anthony you either sign a extension or we are trading you...which I applaud as Bosh should have been traded last summer...but Heo is not a mistake without Bosh Hedo will excel and to compare Beasely and hedo as a earlier poster did is absurd, clueless,,,as hedo's strength is not in stats or if it is it's in assists his b-ball I.Q. is far superior to anything the Raps have...I am not a Beasely fan but i am not opposed to him as long as he comes here ready to play....another thing that no one has mentioned is this i feel if this trade has legitimacy (which I feel it doesn't ) then if the raps sign Anthony then it makes Amir reduntant, as Joel can be signed for less...so that gives us a trade exemption, a mid-level and whatever cap-space is left not bad...so maybe BC isn't doing a bad job...

Hmm
Funny I heard he's off to LA and Bynum's looking for parkas.
Let the games begin.

What can the league do to the people involved in breaking the league rules in this matter.

Blogger's note: Substantial fines to teams

cant believe RJ opted out....hadn't had a great year, so probably looking at a mid level or something along those lines...(he had to get out of san antonio.....pop must have grilled him to death)

or pop and his group might have threatened for him to opt out or not play at all in the coming season.... kinda like don nelson telling jamal crawford to opt out....(eventually, jamal got traded to the hawks)

chris stated this gem: "Think i just puked in my mouth. If this is the deal, then Pat Riley once again fleeced our man Bryan Colangelo." How can Pat Riley be fleecing our man Bryan Colangelo when were hypothetically getting everybody of the Heat roster except for Wade. Sometimes these comments make me laugh!

This question will likely get lost in the mix - but Doug, will you miss Bosh on a personal level? After being around the guy day-in and day-out for 7 seasons, it must be a somewhat strange feeling to see the guy walk. I'm sure player's come and go and you've never seemed to be overly attached to Bosh (maybe not as much as say Oak) but still. Just curious, always interesting to see these situations through different perspectives.

Blogger's note: In that regard I will; he didn't win the Magic Johnson Award from the PBWA for his dealings with the media for no good reason.

Now we have proof of the insanity of it all. RJ has opted out of his final year at 15 mil in San Antonio. Either he is insane or the team who signs him for more money than that will be. He should have just waited until he was bought out next season.

Albeit it's in two posts but 150 comments already. Is this what was meant by fasten your seat belts?

Here's a link to a video Bosh posted on his twitter account regarding free agency. Doesn't seem to reveal much.

Doug, Why would they not consider bringing back Rasho now that we really need front court help more than we did last year?
I think with him as the starting centre and Bargnani at the 4 spot Raptors would be pretty solid as a starters.

Blogger's note: Amir Johnson, Bargnani, Davis, Evans, maybe Alabi, someone in free agency. No room for Rasho
