What you need to know of Ed Davis, and a bit of an update
The Raptors have stuck to their script and taken the player they deemed best at any position when they drafted Ed Davis with the 13th pick in Thursday's NBA draft.
The word on the 6-10 North Carolina power forward is long, athletic rebounder; coming off wrist injury but the Raptors aren't worried about that
Looks like a solid if unspectacular pick who was projected to go quite higher than No. 13.
Son of Terry Davis, who played 10 years in the NBA. Said his favourite player is Chris Bosh, too bad he was drafted to replace him.
We'll be back with more later on.
Well, here's the more:
The word I got from someone who I trust when I asked whether Davis was picked to be traded was:
"He's not going anywhere."
The interesting thing is the Raptors did not have him in for a workout; they asked but he thought he'd be gone by No. 13 and didn't accept the invitation. Toronto did interview him and see him work out at the Chicago pre-draft camp.

GREAT PICK! He can bang, he's a got a big body, best player available, it's a good thing.

Is BC still trying to buy another 1st round pick? If so who's the target?
Blogger's note: He's trying as I type

Does it look like a Turk deal might happen tonight?
Blogger's note: Nope, not right now

What do you think Doug.. Good pick?
Blogger's note: Yeah, surprised he was still there; addresses a need and protection for when/if Bosh leaves

Is this the underwhelming night you were fearing or does Davis dropping give a silver lining?
Blogger's note: Night's not over yet; but this is a solid pick

Great Pick from BC. A defensive minded PF/C, on a team that needs front-court defense (any defense for that matter). Insurance for if Bosh leaves. Raps lucked out. Good thing BC didn't pull a babcock.

Hya Doug,
What, no live blog?! :)
First thing Ed has to learn: how to pronounce Toronno!

That's the answer I was hoping for ;)

Hey Doug, how come he wasn't on your list of who the Raps were looking at?
Blogger's note: They had no inkling he'd be available

He didn't look too thrilled when he heard his name called!

I like this pick. But doesn't Davis have too much Amir Johnson in him.
I find it faciniating that the top NBA Draft websites were 8/8 to begin with. They are usually dead wrong. Pretty cool.

Does Davis seem happy to be in Toronto? He didn't look to happy on TV
Posted by: josh | June 24, 2010 at 09:27 PM
Doug - do you know why David dropped in the draft?
Mark
Blogger's note: I don't. Most people figured Utah would take him 9

Maybe a question better for the mailbag, but I'll ask it here: can you recall the last son of a former player who - for lack of a better phrase - didn't quite understand what it mean to be a pro?
Posted by: brent | June 24, 2010 at 09:28 PM
Can he play as a legitimate centre ?
Blogger's note: Not now, no. But he's 21 years old and still growing into his body
Posted by: james | June 24, 2010 at 09:29 PM
Could this also be protection for the possibility Amir Johnson signs elsewhere? Does Amir have any value (or incentive to participate) in a sign and trade?

Nice pick by B.C. Davis has a lot of upside potential, very good defensive presence with good shot-blocking skills, and some upside on the offensive side. Doug,
1. Any comparisons between Davis and Andrew Bynum? Do you see any similarities?
Blogger's note: I don't, know; Bynum's way wider

he didn't look too happy when he was drafted did the kid hint anywhere he doesn't want to play for toronto ?

Are you at ACC hanging around the draft room or enjoying the comforts of Casa Doug?
Blogger's note: A hot ACC media room

Doug,
Were you aware about the Rudy Fernandez talks?
Posted by: Chops | June 24, 2010 at 09:41 PM
Not sure what to think...I was expecting a bit of a splash. Any trades to be done tonight Doug?
Blogger's note: They're working as I type was just told
