It's all one deal and it's bye bye Turk and Jose

Bryan Colangelo is at it again.

In a complex transaction that’s still not finalized, the Raptors are shipping out Hedo Turkoglu, Jose Calderon and one other piece not yet confirmed and getting back Leandro Barbosa of the Phoenix Suns, Boris Diaw and possibly Tyson Chandler from the Charlotte Bobcats.

(It's been confirmed Chandler is coming and while no one's told me officially from the Raptors, looks like Reggie Evans is going; but the deal is not official and won't likely be until Tuesday)

League sources could not confirm the final pieces Monday morning but the Raptors will not have to touch the $14.5 million trade exception acquired last week in the Chris Bosh sign-and-trade transaction.

Colangelo originally drafted Barbosa with the Suns and has long been a fan of Diaw, a multi-purpose forward who can play a couple of positions. Chandler, who is in the last year of his contract, gives the Raptors another long athletic big man.

Turkoglu is destined for Phoenix, Calderon is headed to Charlotte and the league sources were unsure who the third piece leaving Toronto is and where he’s going.

The financial gains are significant.

Barbosa has two years and $14.7 million left on his current contract; Diaw has two years and $18 million remaining and Chandler will be paid $13.1 million this coming season.

Turkoglu still had four years and about $40 million left on his deal and Calderon has three years and almost $30 million left to go.

We'll get more as the day progresses.

Ouch... end of an era. Jose played with passion and was a classy guy who loved Toronto. I'll be really sad if he's leaving. Diaw, Barbosa and Chandler are solid acquisitions, though.

Wow! Great work Doug!

That sucks. Going to miss Jose.

Wow, it will be difficult to see Jose play in the NBA on another team. Classy guy, wish him all the best. He just never consistently lived up to his billing here in TO.

Think BC's done after this? we've got a pretty big lineup with Diaw, Kleiza, Amir, Davis, Chandler, Evans, Alabi rounding out the 3-4-5...and that's if you put Weems at the 2 with Derozan.

wow that's a lot of flexibility in 1 and 2 years. Who will be FA's next year and the year afteR?

Chandler's impact should not be understated. He has a bloated contract, but he is the type of player that ED and Alabi and even Johnson could learn a lot from.

I'm sorry to see Calderon go, but I'm really excited about next season.

Very, very sad to see Jose leaving, but I think this deal is 100% good for the Raptors. Chandler and Barbosa address two glaring holes in the roster. Great move by BC.
Though, I can't wait to hear how "this is terrible deal and BC is the devil sent to ruin the Raptors"... they can, and will try, but I think BC gets this one.

People can bash BC all they like for the way the raps have turned out but as the saying goes hindsight is 20/20.

Personally I think each move BC has made (including this one) makes perfect sense and I'm just shocked how he pulls them off

he just traded $70 mil of bad contracts for $50 mil of expiring contracts (bad or not)
brought in athletic/versatile players

and just moved the average age of our team down to below 26 with tons of money coming off the books in the next 2 years (barbosa, diaw, chandler, evans, banks).

Sad to see Jose go - I'm one of those who enjoyed his enthusiasm, selflessness and wonder if we'll miss him as a glue guy like we missed Parker last year.

It'll be tough watching Jarrett Jack come down the court, shake off two open men and hoist up a brick next year, knowing that Jose won't be able to come on and calm down the team on offense, spreading the scoring rather than throwing up playground trick shots hoping they go in.

CALDY'S GONE???? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BC what are you doing to our team?

I loved Calderon's attitude and playmaking abilities and will reluctantly admit that getting rid of his contract and solving the 'who's starting at PG' question is a step forward for the Raps. Thanks for the latest news-I assume there will be more moves to come.

This is awful ... not for financial reasons ... not even for basketball reasons ...

-Jose was Mr.Raptor ... that stings, a lot!

Cheers to one of my favourite all time Dinos ...

great trade! will miss Jose but the rewards are high

Doug, are you serious that this deal(s) will not cut into any of the TPE we got from dealing CB4 away? If so, this is fantastic news and just made me choke on my lunch!

Great stuff Doug.

I know you'll do a really nice piece on José that will do him justice. He was a great Raptor.

Wow. Just wow. Colangelo sure is on a roll post-Bosh. A lot of people will be full-up on crow pretty soon, if they're honest with themselves.

This is looking like the best possible outcome after last year’s debacle. Short of adding a franchise PG or C without losing key assets (in other words, impossible), Toronto is actually going to come out well ahead of the game over the next 2 years for losing Bosh, which I think we can all now concede was going to happen anyway.

Kudos to BC for bringing in some short-term talent rather than short-term garbage, and creating huge financial flexibility for the post-new CBA era…

Nice. Any deal that gets rid of the the human pylon Calderon is a win for Toronto. I don't even care who we're getting back. It's a great day for the Raptors franchise.

Can someone break down the numbers to explain how the 14.3mil exception still remains? I don't see it.

Great reporting, Doug, but I am sorry to see Jose leave. Hope he thrives in Charlotte. They are getting a great "team" guy.

How does this get done without using the TPE?

Turk for Barbosa gives us an additional ~$3m in TPE, and that plus Jose/additional peice would give us enough to matchup with Chandler's salary, but Diaw makes $9M!

Am I missing something?

One other piece not confirmed.
*Crossing fingers and toes*
Bargnani, Bargnani, Bargnani.

Unfortunately, he's Bryan's boy, so no such luck.

I agree with all the posters above - really tough to see Jose go especially as there is no true PG left on the roster for now. Jack proved last year that he is not a PG and Barbarosa is a SG who might be able to play the 1. Funny to see all the love for Jose now - just goes to prove that all the posters from last year who bashed him constantly were definitely in the minority. It would have been exciting to see all the high light reels that Jose would have made with the alley oop passes to the young gunz. Jack is sadly lacking in his ability to make this type of pass. With my two favorite players in CB4 and Jose gone, I won't be quite so anxious if I can't get one of the Raptors games on TV.

AND he's still got the trade exception? Wow. I'll miss Calderon (who probably wouldn't hear half the comments of his defense with these bigs behind him). I suspect we're losing Reggie (which is too bad - that guy was HILARIOUS and typified what Toronto fans like in gritty players, but we do need room for Andrea to play and Davis to become great while Amir and Chandler will need minutes too.

Question, Doug: is there a time limit between a trade and when you can trade that player again? For instance, if Colangelo is planning to just flip Chandler (not that he's going to), will he have to wait a couple of months or a year, or is that just with FA signings?

BC is a genius

getting rid of "lazy" turk, chris "the rupaul of the NBA" bosh, and jose "i have no idea what defense is" calderon?! amazing. excited for next year.

Ok soo.. I'm no longer a Raps fan. I;m moving to Phoenix. #TorontoWantsHedo <3
