Doug, arguably Alomar is the greatest athlete however you say he had his finest seasons in Toronto. Have you seen the numbers he put up in Baltimore and Cleveland - the HR and RBI's were far superior than has TO numbers, plus he still had all-star appearances and silver slugger awards. I think he was the best impact player for Toronto but statistically had better seasons after he left.

As I courier driver, I listen to Fan 590 all day long. That maybe what makes me insane. All I know is that that Jays team from Gillick & Beeston & Cito & all of the players was a magical time. To question the greatest player is a debate that will always go on. Robbie deserves it! Those two teams were a remarkable time in genius.Yankee like!! In listening to Robbie,he gets it!. He is very gratefull & humble. There are so many great players in Blue Jay History.

In this weeks discussion it was amazing of the names that came up..

We should be prould of them all. We had a lot.

Roy Halladay, Please get yourself a ring. All of us in TO wish that.

Dave Stieb, You are my man.

Dave

Doug Smith's Sports Blog

  • Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
