Ho! Ho! Ho!

I can’t imagine too many of you are here today and I’d hope that’s the case but if you are, know this:

I had a friend ask me the other day in all seriousness whether I liked this gig and all the stuff that goes with it, especially the workload.

I tried to explain what this little part of the world – and a rather large part of my life – is, exactly. And it was hard.

Maybe it’s a big old family, with an old crotchety uncle or two, a sibling you can probably do without, an issue or two that you have to deal with while rolling your eyes or smirking or simply gritting your teeth and getting through it. But it’s family and you take the good with the bad and make the most of everything you do.

Or maybe it’s as we’ve discussed before, a grand and raucous cocktail party where everyone is talking at once and sometimes no one is listening to anyone else as they prattle on and you seek a quiet corner and a lovely conversation to get away from the hubbub. But it’s fun to watch the people, enjoy the company, enjoy the bash.

It is in no way perfect or even close to it; it is sometimes hard, sometimes laughable, sometimes delightful, sometimes a chore.

But it is ours and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Pardon the sappiness – you know I don’t do it well – but from the bottom of my heart I wish you and yours nothing but sweetness and light and peace and prosperity on this day.

And on all the days that follow.

Merry Christmas.

Santa

Happy Xmas, Doug!

Blogger's note: Same to you

Merry, merry Christmas, Doug, to you and your Super Family!
And many thanks for your masterful daily orchestration, to keep us so well entertained, informed, and always coming back for more. You are indeed a maestro. Cheers!
Happy holidays, fellow Irregulars. Go Raps!

Blogger's note: Merry Christmas to you, too

Merry Christmas to you too, Doug. Friends have come and gone, but it's always been you. Thanks for being the voice (well, typed word) I've been listening to/reading for I don't remember how many years now.

Best wishes!

Blogger's note: Thanks very much

Doug,
I read your blog daily and appreciate the way you make it informal and informative at the same time. Thank you for your efforts and I wish you and your family the best of the season.
Ian

Blogger's note: And I for you and yours

A Very Merry Christmas to you Doug! Thanks again for a great year of blogging! Your blog is a daily fix for me that is enjoyable and hugely appreciated!

Blogger's note: And thanks to you

As a wise man once said 'If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life'. Merry Christmas sir

Blogger's note: Was that me?

May you, Super family, and all the irregulars have a joy filled day and a peaceful week ahead. A little time to fit in some NBA would be nice too ;).
Cheers to you all!!

Blogger's note: Peaceful week, month, year, life. Agreed

Merry Christmas Doug! Hope your Boxing Day is a bang up with a win at the end.

Blogger's note: Might make the night a bit easier

Merry Christmas Doug, to you and your family. Your work is truly appreciated and enjoyed, and I can't wait for the day when we're discussing a winning team again!

Blogger's note: Wouldn't that be something?

Couldn't let the day go by without checking in with my favourite corner of the cyber world. It's a little shy of midnight, so there's still time for me to wish all the best to Doug and my fellow Irregulars. Oh and Doug, here's a little xmas present for you: do you think we should cut Alabi and bring Pops back? (you're welcome!)

A great way to end my Christmas day. Thanks a lot Doug. Merry Christmas!

Hya Doug, Merry Christmas to you and super family. Many thanks for a wonderful year. You should be called the Lemonade Man for indeed you've done wonders with the lockout et al. Congrats on a fine year, and all the best in the upcoming year!

Merry Christmas Doug, Thanks for giving me some where to go when I drink my morning coffee everyday (and today's blog shows that is really is EVERY day!)
I was hoping for an "irregular" t-shirt or mug under the tree and never got one... but maybe next year!!

Doug Smith's Sports Blog

  • Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
