Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
Doug, if you need to calm down you should try eating some carbs....it releases serotonin, which has a calming effect.
Carbs that are low on the glycemic index (brown rice, buckwheat, whole-grain rye bread, sourdough rye bread, pita bread, sweet potato, most wheat pastas) are supposed to have the best combination of a calming effect without making you feel sleepy, but as a second choice high-glycemic carbs (for example, white bread or pasta) will actually release more serotonin.
A bowl of cereal usually does it for me, but I'm looking at the ACC's in-seat menu and your best choice there is probably a soft pretzel (or two, or three, depending on your post-game adrenaline level).
