Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
I'm actually ok with the final bucket in today's game. It's a blowout loss. The Raps have a chance to shoot to give their fans something. Take one shot, see if you can get it. Let Dwayne explain to Stan at the end. The Raps are in the building because of their fans. I'd much rather see what happened tonight than see the Raps with a big lead and sitting on 98 points go for a bucket. If the players give the fans a win, ignore the pizza, if they're sitting on 98 in a blowout loss, take one shot. It doesn't hurt anyone, especially since you can explain to the opposing coach seconds later.

Hey, Doug. Do you think Dwane Casey can get this pizza joke fixed for next year? He's defence first. Maybe free pie for holding the bad guys under 86 or something
Maybe a free slice if the Raps hold them to 45% shooting, and extra cheese if they keep it under 43%, and a free Timmy's for every double-double?
How about a chance to win a Buick – draw one name out of the stands for every point the Raps win by, every home game, then a final draw for the car at halftime of the last home game? If Pizza Pizza can afford 760,000 free slabs of cardboard per year (that's 40 sellouts for 40 wins, baby!), Buick can afford to cough up one lousy Verano, right?
Cheers. Go Buick!
