Hi Doug

First of all I absolutely love your work, people like you keep the passion and enthusiam for this sport alive!! So KUDOS!

Now, one thing I do not understand is that raptors fans are so quick to attack individual players for a bad season all the time whether it be a rookie, sophmore, all star player, someone from the bench or even a coach, HOWEVER what puzzles me how come no fan and especially no1 from the media will ever attack BARGANI for his play or should I say lack of play.

He has been the main problem because he has never developed into the kind of player he is supposed to be, payed to be or hyped to be! Even though we tried to find every excuse in the book for the past seven years other than him we need to face it, he has let us down. We let Sam Mitchell go because hes way of coaching wasnt fit for him, we let Bosh go without a sign in trade because we put our hopes in him. His defense is horrible, not average HORRIBLE! his rebounding skills is pathetic for his size and height ( Kyle Lowry 6-0 ft point guard averages more rebound than this 7 ft tall giant) and his basketball IQ which gets sooo much praise is not great. He simply looks LOST on the court, just monitor him when he is playing - watch him and not the game and you will laugh and cry at the same time out of frustration. BUT despite of his game, raptor media that usually rips players apart says nothing to him or about him - they never ask him the tough questions or put in the spotlight for any negative publicity. If he plays bad its either an off night or the point guards fault orrr obviously the coaches fault! MARK MY WORDS put him in any other team his career would come to an halt!

Any player in NBA would love an opportunity that Bargani's got. A city full of fans and media that loves and supports him and we have shown him tremendous amount of patience. Well that patience has run out - trade him while we can get something for him or even rebuild without him but I cannot stand another minute with him on the team that I love and support so much.

Doug Smith's Sports Blog

  • Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
