Doug Smith has been a sportswriter for more than 30 years, a journey that's included seven Olympic Games, numerous and varied championships and more dreary regular season games than he'd care to remember. Here, he'll talk about them all, as well as current events and pop culture. (Just don’t ask him about music nowadays — it's not his cup of tea).
Hey Doug, I ticked you off, it seems. Sorry, didn't mean to. I can't help it if I'm a contrarian! You know the feeling a little bit, I'm sure. Allow me a quick recap in my defence:
You wrote about Ross: "His shot is gone." I replied (somewhat innocently): "When others go through slumps, you say it's part of the game."
And then came the snark: "Get me the quote and I'll concede it; and when I say it, I believe it; I believe this kid is worn down. But thanks for reminding me of what you think I always say. Appreciate it"
Not keeping a file on everything you've written, I typled "doug smith slump" into the Google machine and opened the first provided link to find you writing about Jose: "It’s called a slump, ladies and gentlemen, he’ll get out of it. As a wise old sage around baseball once said, slump’s are like the common cold, everyone’s got a remedy but they still take two weeks to cure." I added, "Granted, it's been more than 2 weeks but he doesn't have the benefit of playing through it as vets do." Friendly enough, right?
And your final response was: "You have too much time on your hands. Yes, some are slumps, Ross is out of gas. I don't really give a rat's ass whether you believe me or agree or not."
I guess I just wanted to say it took me as long as it took to type "doug smith slump" to find it. It's not like I spent days researching. You asked me to get you the quote and I did. Quick as a flash.
Anyway, all this to say... are we still friends?
