So You Think You Can Dance Canada: Losing some of our swag (spoiler alert)

I hate to play armchair quarterback with So You Think You Can Dance Canada results, but there's at least one thing that puzzles me about Tuesday's decision and another that saddens me.

Please keep in mind I bear no ill will toward any of the show's dancers and hate to see anyone's dreams get dashed, but this was Geisha's second trip to the bottom three and Teya's first. As far as the solos went, while I don't think any of the bottom three girls set the stage on fire, Geisha's impressed me the least. So why was it Teya who went home? Results

The sad part is that with the ouster of Teya and Boneless, we've lost two of the show's four hip-hop dancers.

We now have eight contemporary dancers, four ballroom dancers, two jazz and two hip hop still in the running.

With all that being said, the bottom three picks didn't surprise me.

I think krump, the style that Boneless and Teya performed, can be a hard genre for people to relate to, particularly when it's done to music that doesn't have an easy-to-latch-onto beat.

I also wasn't surprised to see Adam and Geisha in the bottom. I wasn't digging their jazz routine as much as the other numbers and figured I wasn't the only one.

I also had a feeling Francois and Yuliya would hit bottom. Their mambo was well danced, but there was no emotional hook to it. Plus, this was Francois's second trip to the bottom three, so perhaps that show-off quality that Luther Brown commended isn't as prized by viewers. I don't know.

The judges seemed to have the most trouble deciding which guy to send home -- Francois, Boneless or Adam -- so much so that they were late coming back to their seats from the commercial break, leaving Leah Miller trying to kill time on live TV as the three anxious female dancers waited.

I do find it a bit frustrating that we don't get explanations for the judges' decisions the way we do on the U.S. show (and I realize their results are an hour long and ours are only half an hour).

All Jean-Marc Genereux said was,"You are all talented dancers. Geisha, that was not your best solo, however, the dancer leaving us tonight is you, Teya."

Tre Armstrong told the guys, "This decision was definitely an impossible one for us to make and it was not unanimous, because we love all of you up there, Adam, Francois, Boneless.

"Boneless, tonight your dance for your life was out there and your journey has been a remarkable, memorable one, but our decision remains that the dancer going home tonight will be you, Boneless."

Both he and Teya took the news with grace and without tears, although Carlena seemed inconsolable after Teya's elimination.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. I love you guys," Teya told her fellow dancers.

Boneless told Leah he had accomplished his dream by dancing on the SYTYCDC stage.

"That’s what I love to do is dance. I'm very happy that I got to show Canada that. It's beautiful," he said.

So what do you think? Did the right dancers go home? Did you expect a different bottom three.

The top 16 will be back Monday at 8 p.m. You can watch on CTV and look for the recap here.

I think it was all signaled by the change in partnership. Like the US show, I'm tired of judges trying to manipulate the outcomes so blatantly. If they don't want voters to "get it wrong", then they should be asking themselves why they have such a program, not try to arrange the outcome they want.

The general speculation on the TWoP forum is that the judges have been wanting to get rid of Teya for some time now, but i guess Kevin has a solid fanbase that kept them out of the B3 (esp. after that awful waltz last week). By mixing up the couples, they are probably hoping to dump some baggage. Note that they kept all the really strong competitors paired with another really strong competitor (Jordan, Christian, Joey, Melissa, Shane and Lindsay). They teamed Matt with Denitsa to boost her chances (his Atlantic Canada support), leaving Shelaina more vulnerable. Kevin's fan support may help keep Carlena around the way it kept Teya out of B3. They obviously like Geisha and she does have more talent than Teya. Probably the most unfair to Boneless since we have no idea how he'd do with a really different genre. They really need to stop letting people do the same genre over and over again, esp. if it's THEIR genre.

The wrong dancers were cut! Teya, on her first trip to the B3, did an okay solo. Geisha did not. Adam looked like he was competing at a gymnastics meet. So my question is, why even bother to have a "dance for your life"? I would have loved to have seen Boneless dance in another genre. He did it during the final auditions, and we were deprived of seeing him do it again. Not nice, show!

Thanks for the recaps as I am a major dance fan and think the talent is huge this year BUT I am so pissed about what happened last night. Teya took it really well but Boneless - I loved that guy, and he really brought something different to the show. I was really encouraged when they brought some hiphop dancers into the top 22, but since then they are just being picked off - unfairly I think! The pairing and genre choices are feeling manipulated. I'm tired of contemporary dancers getting paired with other contemporary-trained dancers and then dancing... surprise! Contemporary. Give one of those pairs that krump routine, make them try it!! The top 22 was so great and I'm so proud of the Canadian dancers but... I'd like to see alot more respect and appreciation for the great talented hip hop dancers who audition and make it on the show. Luther looked unhappy - was he the dissenter? Would the same thing have happened if Mary could make the results night? I'm not even that keen to watch now...

The really unfortunate thing is that Boneless spent a year training in other genres, he told me Wednesday, just so he would be ready to dance those genres on the show and he never got a chance. It's been a crazy day and I just haven't had time to upload my video or transcribe the interview, but I can tell you he seemed really disappointed when I talked to him and my heart goes out to him, and to Teya too.

Oh come off it. The kicking off of Boneless is typical.
I almost feel sad for Dan Garity he had to go along with that 'pseudo hip hop" and "house". Why? It's watered down dance for the massess. I mean look at the audience, they are typical of voters I bet. That's okay it's like orange juice and orange drink.
