First it was the hip-hop dancers, now the ballroom dancers have seen their ranks reduced on So You Think You Can Dance Canada.
It was Francois Pruneau and Yuliya Zavadska who were eliminated on Tuesday night.
Yuliya had gone above and beyond on Monday night, dancing way outside her style in a contemporary routine, but I did feel her solo was weaker than the other girls' that night.
Francois has had some great moments this season, but he was up against some stiff competition, particularly fellow ballroom dancer Christian Millette, who had another "can't take your eyes off him" solo on Tuesday.
Both Francois and Yuliya have been in the bottom before; this was Yuliya's fourth time and Francois's third.
As always, because of the shortness of the half-hour results show, the judges didn't give reasons for their decisions (and note, it was the judges who had the final say, not the voters), but all four judges had words of encouragement for the bottom three girls and guys.
"I just want to say quickly you more than all deserve to be here," said guest judge Mary Murphy. "Whoever goes home is gonna leave a celebrated dancer on one of the best seasons that Canada has ever seen. I love all of you."
"So much talent up there tonight," added guest judge Stacey Tookey. "I just have to say you all make me proud to be Canadian."
Tre Armstrong echoed both themes: "No matter what the results are tonight, all of you are the most amazing competitors to ever grace our stage. Canada is the best."
And speaking of the best, I was surprised to see two of the best of the season, in my view, Christian and Melissa Mitro, in the bottom.
Melissa has never been in the bottom before and this was Christian's second trip. Girls, are you not voting? Did you see his solo on Monday night?
As for Melissa, I have a couple of thoughts. I wonder whether the weekly standing ovations from the judges are getting on people's nerves. Or, alternately, did people assume she had nothing to worry about and not vote for her as much as other competitors?
Whatever the answer, this means that Melissa doesn't necessarily have the straight path to the top that some of us assumed. Jordan Clark and Lindsay Leuschner are both forces to be reckoned with.
And on the guys' side, Shane Simpson seems to be getting stronger every week and Matt Marr's charisma and passion obviously hold a lot of appeal for the voters.
Adam LoPapa was the other guy in the bottom three on Tuesday, but he's also been coming into his own the last couple of weeks.
The girls got the bad news first. Jean-Marc Genereux sent Melissa to safety first then told Yuliya she was leaving.
"I feel really proud to be Canadian, first of all," Yuliya said, "especially after everything the four judges just said." She also thanked everyone who works on the show and gave a shoutout to the remaining "ballroom people, you will rock."
Francois appeared a little stunned after Tre sent first Adam, then Christian to safety.
"I want to thank my family, my fans. Seriously it was a big experience for me and I love you all, guys. Thank you so much."
What do you think? Did any of the bottom three surprise you? Would Francois and Yuliya have been your picks to go home?
By the way, I posted my dancer videos from Saturday night's taping on YouTube but forgot to post them here, so here you go:
I'll be watching the top eight dance in person Saturday, then blogging it when it airs Monday night. Hope you'll tune in to CTV at 8 p.m. and catch the recap here.
