But people are stupid, and are more likely to buy an item if a portion of proceeds is going to charity, even if that portion is only 1% of the price. If companies were forced by law to clearly state on the packaging not only the cash amount but the actual percentage of the price going to charity, people might finally realize that the "portion of proceeds" claims are simply deceptive marketing practices.
