Morning TV shows in royal Halloween spirit

What better time is there than Halloween to pretend you’re Prince William or Kate Middleton?

Apparently the morning show folks on TV were asking the same question. “The Today Show” and “Live! with Regis and Kelly” both decided to take up the royal wedding theme for their Halloween shows.

Pippa“Today” had the far more ambitious staging (as they usually do on Halloween), and had been in planning this re-creation since the real royal wedding on April 29.

The primary cast (pictured above) had Meredith Vieira (making a surprise appearance) as Queen Elizabeth, Savannah Guthrie as Prince Charles, Ann Curry as Kate Middleton, Matt Lauer as William, Al Roker as Prince Harry and Natalie Morales as Pippa Middleton (right).

According to Today's own report, each wig worn by the cast took up to 40 hours to make. It takes a much shorter time to knock the wig off the royal head, as Lauer demonstrated when he gave Meredith (playing his grandmother Liz) an overly-ambitious hug.

Over at "Live!," Regis  was off (his last ever show is Nov. 18) which is just as well since it's a stretch to see Regis play a man almost 50 years his junior. In his place, Nick Lachey donned the Prince William costume while Kelly Ripa, who might have made a better Pippa, played the part of Kate.
