Pippa's bridesmaid dress a hot seller
The dress that made Pippa Middleton famous can now be yours. But you better hurry.
A version of the Alexander McQueen gown (above left) that catapulted Kate Middleton’s bridesmaid to celebrity star status at net-a-porter.com, the UK-based designer fashion website for $3,237 (Cdn). The original reportedly cost about 10 times as much, which has made McQueen’s retail version all the more desirable. (It's an extra $50 to ship overseas).
The smallest sizes available (Italian 36 -- size 0 on this side of the pond) have sold out online within a day of their unveiling.
“Beautifully cut, elegant and timeless, Alexander McQueen's silk-crepe gown will make an exquisite choice for your wedding day,” net-a-porter proclaims. “The signature accentuated shoulders and draped neckline are effortlessly flattering -- style a clean silhouette with swept-back hair and drop earrings for radiant, understated appeal.”
Be aware, however, that it is not an exact replica of the Sarah Burton-designed dress that launched a worldwide fascination with Pippa and her assets. The lace that adorned the dress around the neck and arms is missing, and the button-back is replaced by a zipper.
Debenhams, a high street retailer in London, had earlier put a much cheaper version of the dress on sale at $275.
