Queen Elizabeth hosted the largest gathering of world royalty in a year today at Windsor Castle, for the Sovereign's Jubilee Lunch.
The gathering, the largest since last spring's royal wedding, was not without controversy. King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain was in attendance, even though his regime is accused of many human rights abuses. An anti-monarchy group in the UK called the invitation a "catastrophic error of judgment".
The Royal Family also drew criticism for inviting Swaziland’s King Mswati III, "who is accused of living in luxury while his people go hungry."
According to reports today:
The Foreign Office, which advised Buckingham Palace on the invitations, said that Britain’s ties to Bahrain allowed U.K. officials to talk frankly with the strategic island nation’s rulers about “a range of issues including those where we have concerns.”
Eyes on Kate
William and Kate were among the British royals at Windsor Castle for the luncheon and fashion watchers were keen to find out what Kate would be wearing. At it turns out, it was a $2,000 pink Emilia Wickstead dress.
According to one report, Kate "once again mastered the tricky balance of looking glamorous whilst retaining an air of regal respectability."
