Jays off to hot start on TV

Those Toronto Blue Jays can still get hearts pumping across Canada, even if they are favoured to finish last in the AL East this season. Because of hockey commitments, Sportsnet showed Monday's season opener against Detroit in Ontario and Pacific regions only. Despite that, the game was watched by an average audience of 440,000 viewers -- 18,000 more than the audience for last season's opener on TSN national. It drew 259,000 in Ontario, more than last Friday's Leafs-Flyers game.

Sportsnet did a solid job on its baseball preview show, but the feature on the two pitchers from India stood out for sheer entertainment value. Produce Paul Sidhu got the two young pitchers, who won tryouts in an Indian reality show, to say some pretty provocative things.

Pay particular attention to their impressions of America and Americans.
