Reese & Jake break up! No, they don't!

When I saw the news from People that Reese Witherspoon and her epic love biscuit, Jake Gyllenhaal had called it quits, I did think it was a bit strange.

At 2.45pm yesterday, People reported that, "Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal have split have split, a source close to the actress says. No further details were given." Weird timing. I mean, he has a grim-ish war movie with limited box office potential - Brothers - coming out this Friday and it would certainly benefit from Reese on the red carpet. But then, at five-ish in the afternnoon, Us had this: "Contrary to reports elsewhere Sunday, Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal have not broken up. A rep for Witherspoon, 33, says: "It's not true. They have not split." And People had to deny their own story: "Despite reports to the contrary, Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal are still very much a couple, according to their reps. Although a source close to the couple says their relationship has ended, reps for both say, "it is not true." Nanci Ryder and Carrie Byalick, who rep Witherspoon and Gyllenhaal respectively, tell People, "They are still together."

But it, of course, all makes sense now. This is the most publicity any of them have received for months. Well played, Gyllenspoon Witherhaal. May your true love last at least until the release of Prince of Persia.
