What not to see this weekend

Wheninrome It's not looking good for When In Rome. I still pine for Veronica Mars and always want to see Kristen Bell do well, but, sadly, Rome is currently at 20 per cent at Rotten Tomatoes. You can read Linda Barnard's beat-down here. And enjoy some other nuggets of dismissal here:

"The problem is not the credulity-stretching script. Or even that much of the movie just isn't all that funny. The problem is that it thinks it's freakin' hilarious."

"one of those romantic comedies that's compelled to spell everything out for its audience at 10 minute intervals"

"The screechy Bell has the delicate charm of a scraped blackboard; the dully handsome Duhamel looks like a Land’s End catalog come to fitful life."

"Even in the avalanche of terrible Hollywood romantic comedies, this one is particularly inane."

"When in Rome plumbs new depths for ineptitude in acting, directing, writing and every other department."

"Notice the ads don't proudly proclaim, 'From the writers of Old Dogs' "

"A romantic comedy of such staggering ineptness that it actually makes one wish the filmmaker would redirect his attention back to the superhero genre he sullied."

"We're not talking Because I Said So bad, but at least Couples Retreat bad."

Stargazing blog by Malene Arpe

  • Malene’s interests and hobbies include Schadenfreude, sci-fi and fantasy (good and bad alike), hilarious hair pieces, age-inappropriate celebrity crushes, messed-up starlets, waiting for the next Star Trek movie, hating Björk, creative profanity, disobedient robots, fake celebrity relationships, post-apocalyptic dread, singing super-villains, baseball, David Beckham (but only when he keeps his mouth shut), vampires and knitting tiny sweaters for her seven cats. That’s not true. Maybe.
