"Huge solar flares from the sun may create huge power blackouts and the Earth will be left without key communication signals for a longtime after a "once in a life time space storm" NASA warns.  The space agency is predicting as the Sun powers up to maximum strength in the next few years the  the national power grid will overheat, air travel will be severely disturbed as most GPS and major communications satellites fail in the wake of solar flares of maximum intensity. NASA's advisory board of senior space analysts believe the planet will be bombarded with unprecedented levels of electromagnetic energy from ginormous solar flares as the Sun wakes as if "from a deep slumber" possibly in 2013, multiple sources report. The perfect space storm could cause catastrophic consequences for the world's health, emergency services and national security unless precautions are taken. Many scientists are convinced the resulting electro-magnetic pulse disturbances will repeatedly create electronic havoc  for major industries -- from emergency medical services, hospitals magnetic imagery systems, complex banking software and air traffic instrumentation -- all the way down to consumer goods such as home computers,  iPods and home TV transmissions. "Think of the collateral damage like the BP oil spill - only writ much LARGER and electronically," a source close to the situation told The Enquirer. "With rolling blackouts and continued data loss we'll be thrust back to the dark ages  for months at a time." As NASA mans up a think tank to devise contingency plans, they are beset by the grim reality that in months with the last space shuttle mothballed, the American manned space program will be officially dead. And with it any potential solution to the coming solar crisis."
