Avengers shatters records Deadline has this: "It’s now official — Marvel’s The Avengers is a monster worldwide hit for Disney in 2D, Digital 3D, RealD, and IMAX 3D theaters ... Hollywood couldn’t be happier because it kicks off the all-important Summer 2012 movie season with sensational numbers. Avengers lived up to its billing as the ‘Superhero Team-Up Of A Lifetime’ by featuring all-in-one pic the iconic Marvel figures Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Nick Fury. Disney says it’s looking at a record $69.7M grosses for Saturday after making $80.5M Friday (including $18.7M midnights) from 4,349 U.S. and Canadian locations, including 3,364 plays in 3D. Studio confirms it’s on track to shatter the domestic weekend opening record with $200.3M. And then this update: Rival studios are telling me that Marvel’s The Avengers is on pace to make as much as $55M for Sunday’s gross. That would put the Disney film’s 3-day record-breaking opening weekend’s domestic cume about $205M and its global total near $650M." CAN'T HELP BUT UNCHARITABLY PROJECT THE THOUGHT, "SUCK ON THIS" TOWARDS EVERYONE WHO'S ROLLED THEIR EYES AT ME FOR THE PAST 15 YEARS WHENEVER I'VE TRIED TO EXPLAIN THE AWESOMENESS OF JOSS WHEDON.

Scorsese hires Jonah Hill Deadline: "After getting an Oscar nomination playing Brad Pitt’s wing man in Moneyball, Jonah Hill has just been set to star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf Of Wall Street, the Martin Scorsese-directed adaptation of the Jordan Belfort memoir. Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter wrote the script. The film chronicles Belfort’s dramatic rise and fall on Wall Street, along with his hard-partying lifestyle and tumultuous personal life, which included drug and alcohol addiction. Hill will play his close friend, who becomes Belfort’s business partner when the charismatic stock broker persuades him to quit his job in the furniture business to jump into the lucrative, volatile world of stocks."

Rihanna missed SNL dress rehearsal: "Rihanna was a no-show for her final rehearsal for "Saturday Night Live" - which did not sit well with the show's producers, including head man Lorne Michaels ... TMZ has learned. According to our sources, RiRi called in sick for the dress rehearsal, which is done live in front of a studio audience right before the actual show. We're told Michaels takes dress rehearsals very seriously and was quite upset when Rihanna bailed at the last minute. Our sources say that in her place, Rihanna's choreographer danced to her songs. When Rihanna showed up later looking just fine, we're told the staff was shocked ... and felt she didn't appear sick enough to have missed the dress rehearsal ... though no one from the show called her on it ... We're told producers can't even remember the last time someone has skipped the dress rehearsal. Sources close to Rihanna tell TMZ she went through every rehearsal except the dress rehearsal (which she was in the building for) because she just felt too ill to do it. We're told RiRi had a doctor come to her dressing room before the show and administer a shot of penicillin before she went on."

Hitched "Actress Julie Benz married Rich Orosco on Saturday, her rep confirms to People. The couple tied the knot at 6 p.m. at the historic John Sowden house in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles. The wedding featured a Mexican theme, in a nod to Cinco de Mayo and to the groom, a marketing executive, who is of Mexican heritage. The house itself is known as the Jaws House, given that its striking facade, which also has been compared to a Mayan temple, looks like the gaping open mouth of a great white shark. Engaged since last June, the former Dexter star, 40, met Orosco five years ago, her rep confirmed to People at the time the engagement was announced."

Stargazing blog by Malene Arpe

  • Malene’s interests and hobbies include Schadenfreude, sci-fi and fantasy (good and bad alike), hilarious hair pieces, age-inappropriate celebrity crushes, messed-up starlets, waiting for the next Star Trek movie, hating Björk, creative profanity, disobedient robots, fake celebrity relationships, post-apocalyptic dread, singing super-villains, baseball, David Beckham (but only when he keeps his mouth shut), vampires and knitting tiny sweaters for her seven cats. That’s not true. Maybe.
